I have been having a little trouble getting my head around the outputs of the MPC1000.

I would like to set up my MPC1000 as an external instrument in Logic so that I can sequence my beats on the MPC1000 but have the sounds processed through Logic at the writing stage prior to having to track into Logic for mix down/further arrangement etc.

I would like to have each of my core drum sounds kick/ snare/claps/hihats routed through Logic on separate channels.

I figure in order to do this that I would set up 4-5 external instrument tracks in Logic assigned to the MPC with the appropriate inputs selected.

Within the MPC I planned on assigning each of the pads containing my core drum sounds pads to the four assignable outs as well as the main outputs on the MPC1000 so that each drum sound from the MPC has its own output.

Where I am running into trouble though is that when assigning a pad to any one of the 4 assignable outs of the MPC the sound only comes out of one speaker?

Is there a way to alter this so that the sounds that I have assigned to any one of the four assignable outs comes out both speakers?

sounds like you've got each external instrument track in Logic panned hard left or hard right, which would be appropriate if you were feeding it two stereo inputs, but you're not, you're feeding it four mono inputs

see if you can set the panning to the middle

I don't think it is an issue with Logic as it still happens when I am just running the MPC1000 through my audio interface out through my monitors without Logic even entering in the equation.

So just confirming then that usually when you run a sound out on an assignable out (1 2 3 or 4) you should be able to hear the sound in both monitors?

Read the manual, you assign a sound to 1/2 or to 3/4, not to 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 individually. Which means if it's a stereo sound, the L channel goes to 1 and the R channel goes to 2. For mono samples, they should go to both 1 and 2, but can be panned to only go to one.

So check if you've adjusted the panning in the MPC Mixer screen. (You do want to have done that - otherwise the two sounds you send to 1/2 will both come out on both 1 and 2, and you won't be able to separate them.)

Does your interface always interpret tracks 1 and 2 as a stereo pair, rather than two independent channels?
If it has a switch on it to tie two channels into a stereo pair, turn that off.
What interface is it?

not familiar with your interface but somewhere in the setup you would have to make sure each of your 1-4 ins are panned to center..

by default your interface should have the odd ins panned hard left and the even ins hard right..

Yeah on the MOTU you can seperate the channels or pair them odd/even... more of a DAW thing though than a MOTU thing I suppose :P.

I would like to run 4 channels out of my MPC1000 into a DJ Mixer for live use.
Works fine although it seems that the volume levels of the assignable outputs are considerably less that the main outputs.

DJ mixer gains are cranked right up and I can barely hear anything.
Inputs in the DJ mixer are fine as when I plug my turntables back in I need to take the gains right down for there to be reasonable level running through the mixer.

The master output control the assignable outputs to right?
Anyone on here had experience/issue with low level assignable outputs?!

I have a question about the Assignable Outputs, that I can't get a clear idea from reading the manual.

Ok, so you have a kick, snare, hat, bass, and a vinyl sample all sequenced on the MPC and all the audio is coming out of the Main Stereo Outs.

BUT...

you want to send the kick, snare, hat & bass out through assignable outputs 1-4, respectively.

Once you connect the assign outs to your mixer mono channels 1-4, respectively, do those 4 sounds no longer come out of the MPC's Main Stereo Output? So in this case, only the vinyl sample will play from the Main Outs and I could use the Onboard EQ and volume fader of my mixer to control the sound and level of the kick, snare, hat & bass?

I'm planning on using the onboard EQ of my mackie mixer to effect my sounds and use the tape out of the mackie 1220i mixer to feed solo'd channels to the SP 303, if this is possible?

thanks so much for any help
