Card Reader Stopped Working

Hello Folks,

Bummer, my MPC has a problem: After a cross continent trip coming back from portland OR to Ann Arbor MI I turned on the MPC (2000xl) and it says, no Floppy detected. The card reader isn't being recognized. I am advised to get a card reader for the PC and try the card in there, to see if the card is what went bad. Maybe the X-ray machines messed it up at the airport, however it worked fine in Portland OR after the first trip.

Might it be the actual card reader? its a 'the slot' version with a 512mb card. Remember it says 'no floppy detected'. maybe this means more than the card is bad.

I was looking at the inside of the reader and it seems like the far right and left pins are sticking out a little farther than the rest. Is this normal? or maybe they got pulled out when I removed the card and that is the problem.

Any idea's on what to do are welcome.


Part of me actually wants to sell the thing and get a 500! I think i could get a good price on this piece since it is fully loaded with a new screen and all the extra's installed... minus this bad card reader.


The loading time is also increased quite a bit, it takes about 20-30 seconds to load the main screen on startup.

Did you try to see if the connection cables where tight in place?

I mean you said it loose... did you try to place it firmly in?
Did it change anything?

It sounds to me like a loose connection

Yes this is normal for CF connectors. The pins are slightly longer to help the card insert straight onto the connector instead of on an angle.

cool, glad the pins weren't loose...

I actually did take the mpc apart and made sure the connections were right. everything seemed normal.

it was really frustrating when I first discovered it.

I feel like it is broken or something... not too confident on how to get it working... yet

No, not the whole sampler, just the card reader. I'll test it in one of my XLs. If any part of it is bad, I should be able to fix it.
