Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I am a novice to the mpc500, but have read the manual, and when faced with problems I have usually been able to solve them. I have a couple of issues;

1. I cannot assign pads to specific keys on my keyboard. I have tried doing this on the DEFAULT ASSIGN window on the MIDI/SYNC pad. But if change A1:Csharp1 to A1:C3 for example, nothing changes, the sound still comes out when i play Csharp1 on my keyboard. I have made sure the track is set to MIDI not DRUM. I just want to be able to assign samples to specific keys on my keyboard. There is not a problem with connection as my keyboard is happy to play the sounds, its just that I can't move them.

2. Is it possible for me to play and record sounds from my keyboard into my mpc?

3. Is it possible to change the volume of a single track. At the moment im using the EDIT VELOCITY window in the SEQ EDIT pad.

Thankyou for your time, I have checked out a lot of youtube vids and a lot of old forum posts, but still couldn't be sure whether its my mpc, or me being an ass. Probably the latter. Hopefully the latter.

1) Sorry haven't done this myself... can't help you there. It may just change the Midi Note that the pad generates though...

2) Yes... it is a sampler. Hook something into your 1/4" Inputs and try Mode -> Record.

3) There's nothing like submix editing on the 500. Maybe something to adjust velocity levels for all notes under the track/sequence editor but not sure. If you explain what it is you want to do/why I'm sure somebody here can give you a creative answer.
