Can the 500 load programs/sequences made in both JJOS1 or JJOS2? I'm wondering because on my MPC2500 I use both OS1 and OS2 depending on what OS I used when the beat was made, and I know that programs and sequences made in OS1 don't load up right when you use OS2 and vice versa. MY question is exactly how and what does the 500 load from someone using JJOS1/OS2 on a 1000/2500 then loading up the files in their 500.

If you want to load your stuff on the 2.5k into your 500, you're best off using the stock Akai OS on your 2.5k. Some things will work, but just like the issues with OS1/OS2 compatibility on your 2.5k... you'll have the same kinds of problems moving JJOS projects to an MPC 500.

I've got a 1k w/ JJOS2XL on it and a 500. Killer combo... but you'll be more likely moving samples/loops between the two... just not full projects.

Thanks for the reply, I assume since the Akai OS for the 1000/2500 will load up projects from JJOS1 then the 500 will load up OS1 projects I do on the 2500. I have got so used to the track mixer screen in OS2 I hate going back and doing beats with OS1, but I guess if that's the only way to maintain some type of cross compatibility with the 500, I'll have to go that route on some tracks.

I do a lot of step editing on the 2500, is this a pain to do on the 500 and it's tiny 2 line screen?

Step Edit isn't any more difficult than you'd expect something portable like the 500 to be. Yeah can be annoying, but you'll get better at flying around with the data wheel. As with anything else once you do it for a while you get pretty experienced and learn muscle memory/shortcuts. I hardly think about it much myself any more.

I think the only pitfall I can remember that crashes the 500 is if you use anything more than MIDI out A. If you start tracking out to B/C/D then the 500 throws a fit. So if you're using a lot of offboard MIDI gear you'll want to consider changing the MIDI outs before transferring to the 500.

I think JJOS2 is the best but you'd have to use JJOS1 if you want all your files to load up correctly on your 500.
