recording question

I record my beats with sony acid. I mute all the tracks in my mpc except one and record particular track into acid. I do the same thing with each track so that I can later try to mix them in sony acid, adding some fx etc. I'm wondering whether it is possible to record the whole song straight from the mpc (separated in mpc into different tracks but played simultaneously)into sony acid and acid will record each track separately at the same time... I don't have any mixer so I can't find it out but I'm just thinking is it possible? It would save me a lot of time and would be much more convenient. If so how should I connect an mpc to a mixer as there are only 2 slots for output and I have 8 tracks of my song for example??peace

This all depends on your interface, what are you using? You would need an interface with 8 inputs to make your life a bit easier.

well I've got none... I'm using an audigy zs 2 gold audio card which has only 2 or three inputs...do you know any interfaces which are worth recommending and at a reasonable proce? and still I quit e don't get it how you can have 8 separate tracks being recorded at the same time when there are 2 outputs from mpc...

well it depends on what MPC you have,

on a 1k you have a total of 6 outputs.

Regarding interfaces, look up something like a delta 10/10 to get you inputs.

all right what about the thing which is called "ASSIGNABLE MIX OUT" there are 4 slots on the back panel of the mpc...does it mean that if i had a mixer I could record 4 tracks simultaneously?? but what about the other 4 tracks ( supposedly I have an 8 track song)? is it possible to record 4 first tracks and then DO SOMETHING and the other 4 will be recorded without changing the slots etc??? And actually when
I connect one of the outputs from "assignable output" to the input of my sound card there is no signal...

but yes you have the concept right, you would use the L&R out as track 1 and 2 out then the 4 assignables would be 3-6. What you can do is use midi to sync the comp and the MPC. lets say you have a beat with 12 parts....two passes would get all your audio into the DAW.

a mixer won't help

a mixer lets you take multiple inputs and combine them into a smaller number of outputs (e.g. 8 inputs into two outputs)

that won't help you, as you want 4 outputs into 4 inputs - as poundaproblem explained you need an audio interface with 4 inputs, and if you have that there's no use for a mixer, you just connect 4 outputs to 4 inputs and record

ok so I was browsing through e bay looking for akai dps 12... do you think this dps 12 would be enough to do proper mixing and mastering ? I mean, having dps 12 enables you to do the final versions of your songs or do you still need something more to get the best quality ? or is it better to stick to software?
