RAMM Question

My m*therf*kers!

I am gonna do it! I'm gonna finally get one. The big bad MPC4f*ckin000!

The only thing I am a little confused about is the memory.

You see, the retailer I am getting the 4000 from is charging about £220-£250 for 512MB of 133 MHz SDRAM (168 Pin) Memory (for my US m*therf*ckers thats $390-$448).

However on http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... M-256%2f13 I can get 2 x 168Pin 3.3v 256Mb 133MHz PC133 DIMM Syncronous DRAM for £25 each (for my US m*therf*ckers thats $48 each).

What I need to is if the RAMM sold on www.novatech.co.uk is the same as the RAMM sold by the mpc 4000 retailer. I mean there is such a huge price difference that I am wondering if the RAMM taken by the MPC 4000 is some specialist RAMM.

Anyone's help and advice would be most appreciated.

that is a HUGE mark up on price. Just buy your own and install it yourself. those greedy bastards.

ditto but you void the warranty which isn't that big of a deal cause the hardware is stable.

get an LE if you can, install it all yourself and save yourself about 1K USD

so you reckon the ramm sold by novatech will work in the mpc 4000? the specs seem the same.

i hadn't thought of the the warranty issue. are you saying that my 1 year warranty wit the store will be void if i put my own ramm in?

i guess in the unlikely event of something going wrong with the unit after i take out the standard 16MB and put in the 512MB, i'll just take the 512MB out and put the standard 16MB back in before giving it back to the store.

also, does the 4000 take 2 x 256MB sticks or 1 x 512MB stick?

you dont have to take out a standard 16mb stick! it sits intern in those chips, you cant touch/ replace it
There are two slots wich u can use to add your memory. So full memory of the 4k = 512 + 16 mb

The warranty is a gray area, you can install the memory yourself But, if you screw something up, it is a fault of your own and the warranty does not cover that. Installing the memory is easy, just make sure when you do it take anti-static precautions. see my post about that somewhere on this site. I think I titled it "What goes where"

just looking at doing this myself and was wondering if you bought from these people in the end and if so how did it go? Im guessing that it doesnt actually have to be an akai product for the ram. Is this right?

haven't bought the ram yet from novatech.

i am actually getting my mpc4k at around Xmas time as i am too deep into a current project to make the switch right now.

but i will be getting the ram from novatech when i get my mpc4k.
