Brand new MPC4000 from Japan won't power up

Brand new to me is fresh off the production line, not sitting in a box for a number of years being exposed to heat, cold and humidity.

so nothing at all happens what so ever when you turn it on? like... no difference between power switch on or off? Or do some components turn on but the machine doesn't boot?

Nothing happens at all when the power switch is in the on position. Totally dead.

well then we know it aint the supply.... next down the chain would be what? a fuze of some sort on the mother board? no power is being distributed through the MB? like.... fan doesn't even get power? Check the power outputs on the board like for the HDD, fan, all that.

Yes, as I mentioned in my previous posts, I already confirmed the power supply works by installing it in another 4000.

that is why i said

"well then we know it ain't the powe supply" ... because you said you tested it in another mpc.

so... you go down the chain to the next thing and run a test. if that is getting power you go to the next thing.


I mean if it is in the main board itself there aint shit to do really unless the problem lies in something you can remove and replace. check the cables that connect power related stuff... there is a break somewhere.

That's the kind of ish I checked on day one.

If you are serious about getting this working yourself, then what I could suggest is that you get a mpc4k service manual, this will show you where the circuit fuses are and what the voltages are meant to be. You would also benefit from getting a working unit and then substituting one part from one unit to the other so you can actually Identify the faulty part or the reason it isn't powering.
I reckon it's gooa be something in the voltage path, have you tried metering the power switch? If the backlight on the LCD isn't working then the main pcb isn't letting voltage pass, I bet it's gonna be simple thing. You just gotto use a process of elimination to nail the fault. Get a service manual and a working unit, take voltage readings on the good one then compare the readings with the dead one, you'll find the fault that way.

Set your Multimeter to CONTINUITY and test the POWER SWITCH

IF that is good, and I am suspecting it might be bad, then move on.

Test for power coming into the Mainboard from the power supply....
If you have a good multimeter, just set it to DC - AUTO RANGE

Make sure you have good voltage on each location

Start with that and let us know where you are

I wouldn't be suprised if it is the power switch
