So!!! i have my first live beat set on saturday and im 2/3rds done. The last part of the set i was gonna play 2 new beats and end it off with a recent remix i did.The thing is ive been diggin thru records for the past 2 days and have found nothin that REALLY catches my ear.Ive found a few drum rolls,a hi-hat,a kick and a voice sample.I came across some dope loops but there were way out my tempo range which means i gotta time strectch em (Record to comp, load up ableton, tweak it,bounce down etc.) But my time is runnin out.Im just lookin for a dope loop to chop and add some bangin drums too, sumthin that the crowd can feel. But im not the type that just chops up anything and i know producers out there that can make sumthin out of nuthin.I like to find a tight groove and build from there with the addition of horns, bass whatever.Im sure if producers heard what i passed up they might think im crazy. But if i dont have that feelin inside and be able to make the beat in my head while im listenin then i aint **** with it.I sometimes think im picky with my samples but at the same time i dont wanna make no wack ish.My studio is limited right now so im just rockin my MPC 1000,record player and laptop that has drums and bass sounds in it.Its just gonna be me and my MPC on stage and ill be switchin thru seqs.to keep my set continous! Im not loadin up beats here just in case u were wonderin.Might have to go thru my MP3 stash which i didnt want to do.The rest of my records are elsewhere and i cant really go thru pop's stash!! (UUGGGHHH Cant wait to get a new place) Oh well i gotta "Keep It Movin" any tips suggestions people????

Sample it, reverse it, play it out, change a few notes, add mangling effects and mix match. There is more to it than sampling and looping. Destroy it or enhance it, whatever the case. Look at sampling as another sound in the sound set of the keyboard. You came use it or move on to the next.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking from us, on the one hand you insist that you want a nice loop sample, and ask us for suggestions, but in your later comment you say

"I wanna find sumthin that NO ONE has used! The whole point of diggin YA DIG"

In which case we cant help, cos anything we think is worth sampling.... we've already used.

Are you sure that sample based beats are for you? It sounds like your struggling. Maybe try to get your act together BEFORE you start playing out?

If i were in your position, I would go with Megatons suggestion, go with something the crowd will recognise, but flip it so they get a surprise. Could backfire though if theres too many elitists in the crowd :D

And yeah, AI, your sigs too big, it makes you look stupid.

i meant that statement 2 ways ^ the way u said it + finding another part of the same song with a different loop etc. - these days most breaks come from the first 30 seconds of the record and some of the good part in the middle or end is left untouched

One of the most sampled songs EVER..THANKS!!! I was just tryin to get some tips on how to work my set.I didnt ask for samples or any other stupid ish u guys thought. So at the last minute i found a dope, crazy rock and roll loop! chopped it,sped it up and made a beat in less then a hour (right before i had to leave for sound check).BY THE WAY I rocked my live set, first one at that! The crowd was goin crazy and no one expected me to rock my set like the way i did.Was bangin on the pads for 20 minutes straight.Playin along with beats i made in the past,Remade snoop doggs "Candy (drippin like water)" played live chops and drums at the same time and ended my set with a recent remix i did for my homie Z-man.My success got me 2 more gigs before the year is up and hopefully more.Couple friends got video but it was too dark to see.Im waitin on pics right now so if any are worthy ill be glad to share them.Bout to get started on my second live set soon! I WIN,PEACE YALL.
