Yes, it is likely the backlight inverter or the backlight foil vibrating.

You try to isolate the source by taking out the inverter to see if the noise goes away. A new inverter may fix it, but it may not.

Could be a number of things which may have been fixed by a later revision of the OS.

Yes!! In my situation the foil was resonating. I just slid half of a business card behind the El Foil & the high pitched noise has been reduced to the point I can barely hear it if i press my ear up against the display. Good deal!

I just copped another 3ooo and it has the 1oomb zip in it, and it makes the wild noises when I load sounds from it, and it comes thru the headphones
haven't tried it to see if it comes thru the stereo outs but its just a minor inconvenience tho
before I open it up and snoop around I just thought I'd check to see if it was common, first time using the internal zip instead of floppy/external zip

I have the same issue. I have a MPC3000, with an internal 100mb zip drive. When I first turn it on, I can hear it loading and making a few noises through the speaker cables. Nothing too bad. Its when I have it on for about 20 minutes that i get this strange whine. It doesnt come through the speakers or the headphone jack, just the vents on the back of the MPC. Does anyone have a solution?

Most of the likely causes have already been identified in this thread.

The solution you choose is up to you, but some are suggested.

1. If you are still using internal zip drives its prolly best to think about getting rid of those.

2. Replace/ check your screen invertor and foil.

3. Investigate the headphone ground connection mod.

4. Check all internal drives are securely fastened to the chassis to eliminate vibrations.

5. Check the SCSI fuse hasn't blown and is not loose or faulty.

6. Let a professional techie identify the cause and sort it out.
