what causes this...?

this is the easiest way i can explain it

what causes distortion/clipping of sound when you have a kick drum hit right before a snare?

for example, that 2nd kick below that comes RIGHT BEFORE the snare. i've found that it fixes it when i turn down that 2nd kicks velocity, but i still dont know why it causes distortion/clipping.

EX:BELOW

kic-----------kic-snr-----kic--snr


if the sequence went

1, 2, 3, 4, SNARE

the kick would hit on the 4...immediately followed by the snare

well if you knew what frequency the clip was happening in it would help...

it may be some low end caught in the recording of the snare or the sample of the snare.... layer that with the kick and bamm you got a clip.

you might easily be able to fix it with some eq on the kick and the snare like shave some high end off the kick and cut the lows off the snare.

or maybe compress the snare and lower the volume.... That type of thing you need to be there and see specifically what is causing the issue i think.

DPM when i chop samples or sounds i use Soundbooth and zoom in far enough to see the waveform without it being too 'fine'

i make sure the loop feature is NOT selected, turn my monitors up and play the sound from start to end a couple time hearing for hiss or pop's in the beginning and end of the sample. once i find a hiss or pop in the start or ending, i start taking small pieces off until when i play the sample it end's flat instead of pop'n or hiss'n.

sometimes you may need to add more to the beginning and/or ending of the sample to stop the problem.

being as thou you are dealing with drums giving you this issue you can try the method i just descibed or play your drums on a "Play Note" method where you have a chance to stop it before it gets to the bad section. hoped this helped man
