Is there anyway I can get my vst's from my computer to play alongisde my MPC 60? I can't afford a hardware synth at the moment, so what I was thinking of doing is buying a cheap midi keyboard, that I can use with my VSTs, however I don't want it to record into my sequencer on the computer, I want it to record into my MPC.

Would I simply use midi thru or something? or is it more complex than that? I'm not talking about syncing my MPC 60 to my DAW but instead treat my PC as a synthesizer if you like and using a midi keyboard with it but recording the midi into MPC 60 sequencer, but my midi keyboard triggering my VST's.

It's killing me at the moment, all I can do is make beats really, i've resorted to throwing some chords down in my DAW, then sampling them into my MPC.

Of course you can, just get a physical midi interface for your PC and set up whatever softsynth you need to control. It's not difficult at all.

I tried it with m-audio midisport and the latency was so bad I ditched the idea

i thought that would be the case, can a computer & soundcard specs lower midi latency? as ive got a decent computer, my soundcards pretty budget tho, mackie satellite. guess im gonna have to save for a synth really.

Have you tried updating the satellite driver and firmware from the mackie website?

Computer spec / setup of OS and soundcard drivers/specs can make and does make a world of difference to latency. It's perfectly possible to set up a system with decent latency without spending a fortune.
