im new to the mpc 5000, just upgraded from the akai xr20, and im having trouble with the "record sample" feature. im trying to record parts of a song from itunes on my mac computer to the mpc. ill provide as much info as possible, hpefully someone can help me out

i followed all the steps in the manual that came with it...

phono/line cable is plugged into the back of the mpc to the back of the comp

phono/line switch is set to line

input select switch on the front panel is set to phono

when i get the record page up on screen, everything looks just like the picture in the book (input:analog mode:stereo monitor:on, etc

now is where i get confused. when the music is playing on the computer, are the level meters suppose to move along with it on the screen of the mpc? mine does not. it stays the same. even when i plug my headphones into the mpc and the music is playing on my computer, i cant hear anything.

help would be appreciated, thank you

Oh by the way, be prepared to have a 20dB difference in sound level between the left and right channel, effectively making your MPC NOT a music production center - because you will always need to pass by some other gear if you want to sample.. At least that's how mine works, damned.
