Hi!

1 year ago, i made a BIG mistake, i bought a Pro Tools M-Powered with a Soundcard Fast track Pro M-audio.
So, now, as i want a better soundcard with a good quality sound and more possibilities, i want to get Pro Tools LE because Digidisign soundcards are better than M-audio.

So, i wanted to buy a Digi 003 with Pro tools LE free in it =1000Euros, but it's really expensive.
The other choice is to buy a secondhand Digi002, and buy Pro Tools LE: i found the Digi002 for 450Euros, with pro tools LE it will be 600 Euros.

But some people in the music shops told me that the Digi003 was really better in relation to the quality sound.
Do you think they just want me to spend 1000Euros? Should i buy Digi002 and save 400 Euros? Is the Digi003 really better???
(I will use it to record my MPC, to record synths, and voices)

Thanks!!!

the problem with protools hardware is that you need to use rewire to use the interface with other software, with the maudio stuff you have the advantage of using your interface with any software you choose.

also, why do you need an interface that large? do you really need that many inputs? just asking you so you think about these things.

I'm sure the people just want to make a sale on a digi003 .... for sure. even if it does sound better, does it really matter ? i mean digi 002 probably would suffice; there probably audiofiles out there that will argue, but whatever, digi 002 probably good enough.

have you looked at other options? i guess if pt is your main choice for software you are limited to maudio or pt hardware, but if its not you have lots more options, like motu, rme, apogee.

just some thoughts. peace

btw if anyone is interested im selling my motu 828mk3 - i too made the choice for a large ass soundcard and only use 2 inputs and no midi.......looking to down grade.

No you don't - Digi hardware can be used standalone with any software you choose

Reason, Ableton, Itunes, Audacity, Soundforge - blah blah blah

So long as the correct drivers are installed.

Co-sign, had digi 02 rack for brief min worked no problem as standalone in ableton...I dont think there is a significant difference between 002 and 003 but maybe somebody who had both can elaborate more on that.

I thought they upgraded the ad/da converters a notch on the 003.

Probably so. But IMO, I still think the 003 still has the edge sonically.

my bad, i was thinking the otherway around. pt uses hardware like a dongle, cant run software with out hardware.

If you buy used, be that the 002 or 003, don't forget about the highly respected Black Lion modifications. If you happen to find that you're not satisfied by the sound of either of Avid's stock offering, then that may be the way to go. People highly celebrate these mods but you should use your own ears first, as the stock units may work for you. If you buy new, getting this mod will void your warranty so if you anticipate likely getting the mod, buy used. Speaking of used, remember many 002s did have a power harness issue. I can't speak personally on if this was easy or not to fix though.

002 has ADAT IIRC.

Get yourself any front end 8 channel ADAT interface and be done with it. Avid is average quality at LE level.

not heard the 003...

i have my digi003 working with logic 9 (standalone) fine using the digicoreaudio manager....can you or someone help me with using it with reason 5 now? because every time i select my digi003 in reason 5, a big red X appears to it and it doesnt work

Make sure you have the DIGI Core Audio driver installed on your system - (although you must have that if you have it working with Logic.

Don't really like Reason - so not used it for ages. But it sounds like you have to set up your hardware interface settings

Go to Preferences and choose Audio from the drop down menu - Choose your device (Digi 003 - or might show up as Core Audio)

And that should be it - like I say - not really got much time for Reason

Just had a thought though

Failing all that - It sounds more like an issue with Sample rates - try setting the correct sample rate in the Digi Core Audio manager prior to opening Reason.

This was an issue with drivers etc before if memory serves - but you would have thought they would have sorted that out by now, but maybe not?

Hope that helps
