Whose got rid of their MPCs ... and what for ?

Just curious ...

NI maschine, MPDs, etc or straight out software emulations ... all seem to be hitting on the MPCs old stomping ground, but I just wondered how many on here actually still have an MPC and use them regularly.

I do most of my beat construction with virtuals via midi, so the MPC is used as a glorified controller by me mainly. I do occasionally use the MPC for sampling, but rarely.

I exchanged mine for a 2 hour session with a prozzie.

She said "I will let you cum inside with no rubber if you palm me off with the MPC"

To be honest I don't use it half as often as I probably should, simply due to the convenience of software.

I tend to use it to compose in different places away from the screen and sculpt out little ideas. More of a musical sketchpad. I also like to use it for percussion because I get a nicer syncopation from the pads.

So in a similar vein to you really ITM.

Although for breaks I really like to use the EMU for it's processing/fx. It's got a very unique sound.

Having said all that I don't think I'd ever get rid of it. Even if I didn't use it for a few years, it symbolises how much f*cking part-time work I did when I was a student just to save up for the little beast.

been thinking about the Maschine lately - the sounds that come included are dope as hell from what ive heard and it seems more user friendly but as of now the 1000 is doing me justice and i use it 5 days a week

my attention span is too short for software... i love my mpc and rarley ever rely on software to make music... although i recommend software to my younger siblings cuz their pockets are short, i'd never get back into it.... never.... never...

I would never get rid of my MPC

got rid of my 2k,sp 303 and triton to pay legal fees, had to use software for bout five years, got another mp and only go to reason for insperation or if i get bored, still use cubase

These sum up what I would have posted, otherwise. I use to hate software because it was convoluted to use for me and very slow to work with (not the processing, the tasks) but recently a lot of software has improved and developers have started to "get it". Now I'm finding a lot of software has helped me create a faster, more effective and more creative work flow that inspires me to have fun and experiment. Some people are the opposite. My XL is now pretty much only limited to what was quoted above, now. I didn't replace it's use for any specific thing, as I use a lot of things that overlap.

one thing.... lets say you got a little table off to the side near the record shelf with a turntable, phono preamp mixer or what ever, a nice mpc.... cutting bits from records could be faster. You grab a stack of 20 records and pop them on one after another snatching the samples you hear at the time. Then when you are done you go and name the clips and if you start working with any of them you can just grab the records they come from and have a good double check for samples on the same record again for new potential idea to toss in the mix.

Lots of fun... it's easy to do... great sketchpad, and it changed the position of your neck from the angle it would be in if you were at the computer.
