how much beats do u make in a day/week?

Perhaps you should distinguish the difference between a BEAT and a SONG.

A beat is essentially an idea, a foundation, a hot 8 or 16 bar sequence perhaps.

A beat requires a lot more work to become a SONG.

Personally I find beats pretty simple, but songs usually require the time and patience that I don't have.

I make 0 songs a week and about two or three beats that will never see structure.

I listen to the radio and hear SONGS not BEATS.

I listen to a mixtape and hear BEATS not SONGS.

if any of u **** talked all crazy like that in real life u'd be gettin beat on constantly

You nailed it on the head with that post. A beat is when your just making the basic outline in your drum machine. I usually just make the basic intro, verse, and chours, track it into the computer and call it a beat. A SONG is when a MC or singer gets on the track then you start building around the vocals and adding in some drops and adding some extra little sounds to change it up a bit and make a finished SONG.

All these cats nowadays are making these fast food tracks. MOST of the crap you hear on the radio are beats that anybody with a computer can make in fruity loops in 10 minutes. There are FEW producers who can bang out 3+ beats a day and actually make QUALITY music... All these commercial tracks use the same played out 808 drums. It only takes them 10 minutes to make because they dont need to take their time to find the right drums. Just put the same 808 drum sounds in every beat and people think its hot.. its BSSSSSSSS

varies... depends on if im zoning or not. I can average about 5 to 7 joints in a day but i usually only make beats on weekends. It's mostly sketches of joints to be finished / embellished / polished later. like the mpc synth beats i posted a awhile ago like 5 joints made in one day while i was experimenting with the 5k synth and mpa gold preamp for more warmth... but that was 5 of like 10 joints sketched out that day. I was zoning on the experiment of the synth and preamp. if i'm into some bag like that i can work up a good hand full of beats. Like if I'm tryin to create something dope with some samples I could create like 10 to 15 tracks and only dig 2. it really varies. I got the mopho and could zone on one damn beat in a day. really depends on a number of factors.

I heard 9th wonder say he tries to do something like 30 beats a week.but shit thats his primary hustle and time is on his side with beatmaking. Kanye said he tried to do 10 beats a day in the summer when he wasnt in school. Shit he didnt have nothing else to do. But imma cat with responsibilities and a J O B. makes it tough to churn em out like that but when i'm zoning and got time I can churn em out.

Ok... I'm gonna give an honest response based on last week's schedule. From Monday to Sunday, I roughly spent 27 hours beat making. 8 beats total, outta those 8, 4 made the cut and became "song." And out of those 4, I am convinced that at least 2 have good potential for placement. That's all folks!

Good shit. This is my favorite kinda post. Gives a lil' peek into various methods/work styles. I've never precisely followed any advice from here, or adopted anyone else's exact routine, but reading this good ish helps me make informed decisions. Anyway useless reply...

depends on the week and whether or not im workin with a new technique or sound that inspires me but i can honestly say that my ears and brain get tired after 4 or 5 in a day.usually ill stop a beat if i have a main stucture and enough different chops that in the eventuality of making into a song i have some stuff to work with.

That's still good given your obligations. I work a 6-6, go to school, have 2 little ones and I'm all samples. I'm focusing on quality these days

I make up to 6 beats a week. I do a main sequence and intro but other then that I work with the artist to get the best possible outcome for the beat. So I do not finish the whole beat until I get an artists that wants the beat, sit down with him and finish it off one on one.

I seen a video where Pete Rock was a judge at a beat showcase and he was telling another producer that he use to make 10 or 15 beats a day!

And when I thought I had a busy schedule... Props man! And word on the quality... that's my primarly focus as well.

i use to make like 15 a day. now im at 1 a day. just because i dont wanna make the same shxt over and over. i like to keep it wayy different from the last beat i did..
