1.2 OS Install problem

Hey, Ok so I just uploaded the .BIN 2kXL 1.2 OS on the floppy disk. I directly put the .bin on instead of the .zip. So I installed it onto the MPC and it was successful. The Version even read 1.2. Well, it will only boot with the disk in. Once I take the disk out and try to boot it says "Insert Disk Load". My question is, how can I save it on to the MPC without having to have the disk in (Making cf conversion useless). Thanks

Take a look at the MPC2000XL Operator's Manual, Chapter 10 Disk Operation, pg. 169, Loading an Updated Operating System. When you did SHIFT and press LOAD, did you select either MPC2KXL.EXE or MPC2KXL.SYS and press DO IT [F6]. And then, press DO IT again ? so that the system would automatically update and prompt you to restart the MPC2000XL??? That should do it. peace

Right, I've read that exact page in the manual before hand and did those procedures. But the manual says exe. or sys. file but the Akai website and SCSIFORS site has a bin file. I loaded and restarted as prompted. But for some reason it will not load without the disk inserted.

OK, Go it working! Had to do it about three times before it would register but it worked. I was scared to install it another time but said what the heck. Thanks! Time to install this CF Reader

Cool ! Don't be scared and take chances. Make a mistake and learn from it. Call it experience earned.

With os 1.20 you can use cf cards up to 1GB. If you ever want to go beyond 1GB, then update the os to 1.14 and enable the partitioning feature. scsi4sampler will work or try mpcstoragesolution for external options.

Thanks for the kind words bro. Yeah I know im limited to 1GB, kinda sucks but alot better than floppy/zip. When that becomes tiresome i'll just be ready for a 2500 upgrade.

Hey guys, I just got 1.20 OS on floppy drive. I don't follow how i get

File:MPC2KXL .BIN (to change to) MPC2KXL.EXE or MPC2KXL.SYS????

I am confused as I have loaded as the .BIN file, its has loaded and restarted?

How do I check to see if the 1.20 has loaded properly??
