Well you gotta read the f'in manual and try to grasp the concepts.

When you load something into the MPC it gets into it's RAM. That's volatile memory that isn't saved when you turn off the device.
If you want to use your programs after having shut down the MP, you MUST SAVE the programs and/or project onto the hard disk or the CF card before you turn off the MP.

Later you MUST LOAD the programs and/or project again to keep going from where you left when you turned of the MP.

It's the same as with the computer you used to type all these questions. When you type a letter in Word or make music in Pro Tools or any other host, you have to save the damn documents and projects before turning of your computer, or else all you did gets lost.

alrite so im def makin progress here, just learnin a little slow. theres only one more question i have.
the files i have loaded in are suppose to assign themselves to pads when i load them in, some are PGM files too so they make theyr own programs and the samples are suppose to assign themselves to pads.

after loading the folder i go to mode/program and select the program i want but all the pads say "no sample" when i hit them but theres suppose to be samples assigned to them already

figured out the problem. the 5k i bought still had OS 1.01, had to upgrade to the os 2.0. so yes i WAS doing EVERYTHING correctly, but the bugs in 1.01 were too much.

Well, whatever you do, please read the OS 2.0 manual addendums before you progress. Some concepts - like having to save your sounds - are so basic that it sounds as if you don't even bother to read the manual. If you did, then somehow you must have missed or misunderstood the part about saving, in which case I apologise for my criticism.

This is definitely the impression I got as well.

I'd also like to add that saying the machine is "a piece of garbage" when you can't figure something out makes you seem like a bratty child, rather than a serious musician, and doesn't make people want to help.

No offense, just sharing a point of view.

 Sounds like a case of putting the cart before the horse. RTFM so you won't look like you're such a noob at dealing with this thing.

Sorry, no it WASN'T. You did not save your work and turned off your MPC 5000 and later when your work was gone you said the machine is garbage. This is a typical case of OSI Layer 8 failure. Sometimes the virus sits in front of the computer.

rjp936 wrote:i know! what am i missing? ive done everything tht everyone has suggested and also followed the manual. i have no problem loading everything in and assigning each one to pads but every time i make a new program and assign them, its like i cant turn the machine off or ill lose everything i did. ridiculus!

No harm intended my friend. We're just making a point about what happens when you read a manual but don't allow the reading material to absorb very well.

Haha man you're askin for help, why everything is lost when you turn off the machine and stuff.. I and some others try to help you, the ones after me bash you for your stupidity, you try to get out of the embarassing situation by saying all you did was correct and the v1 bugs are the cause of your inability to work simple things. There were no such bugs that prevented loading all the stuff that really had been saved.

Now you callin me a cocky motherf*cker? You're stupid man. You embarassed yourself. Not because you don't know stuff and ask for it, but because you don't show in any way or form that you even try to learn the easiest things and later accuse the ones trying to help you of being cocky and schit.
Everyone in this thread knows what you did and what you didn't do. Stop actin like a 4 year old. Better come back to this forum with a new name and identity. Right now you made yourself known as someone who blames other things (MPC 5000) and other people for his own shortcommings and inability to grasp and work the most simple concepts.
