Do you prefer a good loop, or good chops?

i also dont believe in choppin somethin so much that u hear the breaks inbetween the notes it can be done right and done good but sometimes its annoying

i think too many people na'days ruin a good sample by doin the popular thing and choppin the shit out of it

Depends of the mode of the song. If I find that I want to keep the mode of the loop, chopping will only make it sound wack and stumbling. If I want to do something different with the sample and the mode of the loop isn't that important for the vibe of the track, I choppy chop that schit up.

What I've been doing recently, is keeping the mode of the loop AND chopping the loop up. After chopping, I use both the loop and the chops in any order I want. Or even add some chops on top of the loop. Possibilities are endless.

Whatever sounds best.

Funky chops mixed with very dope loops always seems to work the best. Best way to get the drums kickin, and best way to get the ambience with atmosphere to me.

a lot of stuff sounds good without having to chop it at all...just add stuff around to add variety or in place of chopping. most of my favorite songs dont have chops, there just straight loops...with track mutes or added instruments on top with good percussion used on top of it all

so i mean if you look at a good chopping song, say "Above the Clouds"-GangStarr,..its no better in my opinion than say "Miditation"-Shing02, which doesnt use any chopping (or at least im pretty sure it doesnt)

at the end of the day some people will probably prefer chopped songs because it takes more skill than just using a loop, but whatever sounds good, sounds good nah mean?

its just matter if preference and style, i chop cause it fits what im trying do most of the time, although some of my chops last up to 4-8bars

I go for dope loops, chop them up and rearrange certain parts of my beat with those chops (by try and error mostly)...

What often works best for me is leaving the bassline of the original loop (low end theory it is called i guess?) while experimenting with the single chops in combination with a high-pass filter.

However, i guess this is pretty basic sh!t.

I hate using the original loop.

i do some loops and some chops with the 2000

Chop are always the best because you make the sample and the song go the way you want it without it sounding like the original. It makes you proud at what you've done. Us samplers are modern day composers, we can't play live instruments but we can arrange them and take sounds and put then into place properly.

But once you come across a dope loop, sometimes you just gotta leave that shit alone and let it loop!

in my deli shop, we ( me, myself & eye ) try all sorts of cuttin

Sometimes when I do my chops they sound too choppy (no put intended lol) Maybe it's just me, or the material I'm sampling. Just some strings that I chopped up and tried to make my own pattern but it doesn't good like the chops I've heard on pete rock or premier joints.
