what was it that made u want to get one?
why not download free software?
why not get a cheaper sampler?

for me it was because all my favorite producers had one and i wanted to be able to do what they could do i used flstudio for 5 years before realizing that i needed more - the effects in flstudio are much easier to use etc but i love the mpc way more - finally getting used to my style after about 4 years on it

I just got bored with the clicking and the dragging while watching at the screen.

Pete Rock's video of him on the MPC on Youtube and Damu The Fudgemunk got me inspired.

A while later I saw a 2000XL at the pawnshop. I did some reasearch on the net and found that the MV and 5000 suited my needs. Before that I thought the MPC was just oldschool hassle, but that was just the thing I was missing; putting in the work!

Next I played with the 5000 at the local music store and fell in love. I'm having fun again and make more music then I did with a VST.

During the 90's, the mpc was the mack of drum machines/samplers. That reputation itself was enough to pursuade me to get one as soon as I got the chance.

I wanted a 3k but waited until '04 to actually jump on one.

eight years I worked with reason and used a lot of synthsounds. Later I started diggin and sampling. But I hated to use recycle and cut the slices with the start buttom on the nnxt sampler. That was a old school type of sampling. and I always prefered the mpd 16 than a midi keybord.
But I got bored of the programm because there were nothing new.
I got a 2000 classic for cheap and Im lucky that I bought it.
I love that its easy to learn and work with. Not much effects and stuff just sampling and hittin pads.

It was 98 and I was usin a Boss Dr5 and a Gemini sampler. I was workin at Sam Goody and reps from distributors would come in to put up posters and stuff. One of them told me that I was wastin time and money buyin little bs piece after bs piece and advised me to get an MPC. So I sold everthing and bought one.

Back in '99, my friends son showed me how quickly he could make a beat on his 2000 with a 1200 TT, dj mixer and a Zip drive. After seeing that I wanted one but he told me to hold out and get the newer 2000XL. And I did. 8)

Started out writing and felt like sometimes when I heard a dope beat it was either too fast or too slow for my comfort zone of spitting and decided I would become a better a lyricist if I chef'd up my own beats.

I use a mixture of free and non-free software

And I did the research on mpc's when I was in the middle east, heard some great things about it from a peer who had a mpc2000 and purchased one(a 500), had it sent home so when I returned it would be waiting for me lol

At the time, it was pretty much the machine to do what you needed. The software options did not exist

nowadays when someone new to the stuff chooses to buy mpc instead of software & midi controller it is more from old skool influences than praticality and features as it once was
