MPC1000 memory card stopped reading and system error

Good day all, I have a serious problem. I've had my MPC1000 with JJOS for 3 years and never had any problems. I was recently making a beat and went to save it and my MPC froze. I was upset because I couldn't save my project. I had to turn the machine off to reset. But, when I turned it back on it stopped half way loading the eternal samples/seq's etc. I turned it off again and took out the mem card. I loaded it without it and it came on. I popped the card back in and it wouldn't read. I have 2 cards so I tried the other...same thing. I played with it for a minute and it read and I redid the beat and tried to save it and it hung again. If, I turn on the MPC with the card in the slot it won't load all the way....it freezes. If I turn it on without it loads ok.

Can somebody please help me out. I've had a really bad week and now this. I feel like a black cloud is over me. Again, please help!!!!!!!!

Look inside the slot for the CF card. How many pins are bent?

No pins are bent or broken. If I play with the card and wedge something in the slot it will temporarily work. I will then get an error message when trying to save a project: "Directory Error"............WTF this is frustrating!

c'mon man, use a little detective work here. you say ALL of your cards are having the same problem. what are the chances that all of your cards would just spontaneously fail all at the same time while just sitting there? almost zero. so the cards aren't the problem, it must be the mpc. you say you can't see any bent pins so it must be something inside the machine. possibly a connection or wiring problem.

here's what i would do if i were you:

1. get a card reader for your computer and BACK UP everything on those cards to your computer IMMEDIATELY. if there is a power surge or something from your faulty mpc it could fry those cards and you will lose all your work. back them up before you even think about putting them back in your mpc.

2. unplug the mpc and open it up. look around the card area to start. make sure everything is connected properly and nothing seems lose, burnt, broken, etc. maybe blow some canned air around there in case there is some dust clogging the reader. the fact that wedging something in the slot helps it to read the cards seems to mean that something is lose in there. some of the more mechanically inclined people here might be able to give you better / more specific advice.


personally, i think flash cards are garbage and i don't recommend people use them to store their stuff. put a hard drive in the mpc and get way more capacity for cheaper. hard drives aren't foolproof either but they're more reliable than the memory cards in my opinion. less apt to fail mechanically cause your not always putting them in, pulling them out, moving them around, etc...

I went to MPCstuff.com and ordered the replacement Slot Card Reader for $125 and installed it yesterday. It works great. It's amazing how parts of electronics can just go and cause other issues within a specific unit. I'm good now and I happy again.
