Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Bo2000xl Sun Sep 05, 2010 2:22 am
Hi.

I've bought 2000xl some time ago, ive made some tracks and one day i decided to get some samples from my pc. I put them on the Zip and put the disc into my mpc. Everything was working nice but after few minutes my mpc stopped working. I've turned it off and than turned it on again and only the lights were on, my screen was working but there was nothing on it.
I tried turnin it on/off few times and it was running again, but it was last time.

Now when im turning it on lights are on but my screen displays totally nothing.
Its my first mpc and im a mpc noob so i dunno what to do with that problem. I was searching for some info but nothing helps me.

I would be very gratful for help.

No idea why it would've stopped working, but it sounds like you may have turned the contrast of the screen off. Try holding down the shift button and turning the jog wheel. See if that works.

Very good tip, I suggest doing this also.

If that doesn't work, reinstall the OS.

Press both REC and OVERDUB while switching it on, it should ask you to insert an mpc disk.
The .BIN file must be stored at root level of your zip disk.
Hope this helps. pz

Hmm...
The LEDs indicate that your machine stucks in self test mode which is before loading the OS. But even during self test it should display
"MPC2000XL" on the screen.
Sounds bad, but I think your hardware is defective and it has nothing to do with loading samples from your pc..
If you or one of your friends have some experience in electronics engineering, have a look inside it.. otherwise you should bring it to an
mpc experienced service shop such as vstservice (usa) or synthesizerservicedepartment (ger). where are you from?

Definitely, sounds bad.

Im from Poland, and as i know there is no experienced mpc services. I have some friends who repair electronic hardware so ill ask them for help.

Thank You.

remove the zip disk and turn it on...

does it come up or is it still froze?

If still froze, open it and ensure that your ribbon cable for the zip drive is still firmly seated in the drive and on the MP main board.
Might be a good idea to remove and re-seat the ribbon.

Check/re-seat connections on 8 out, effects, f-rom, if you have them installed.

Also re-seat ram

If you have more than one stick of ram in it, remove one, try, if no change, try the other stick on its own

Just some thoughts.... try these and post your results

im with smc. i bought one of my 2kxls off craigs list turned it on and after a few moments would have some issues like a hum. when i restarted it would act i little funky on startup. i opened and found the last owner tried to stick a 32mb ram in one slot with a 16mb in the other. pulled the 32 out and perfection was at start up. put another 16 in and all is well. if you got a deal on it... the last owner may have tried to upgrade some internals and didnt do it right. go threw this forum and and youtube about opening it up and what is inside. holler if you have any questions
peace
