BUTTONS GLITCHING!!!

This is scary! got a 1000, the blue and red one, not sure if there is a difference between this and the black one, and its completely freaking out!!!

1. the wheel and the directional arrows are wigging out! they work when i hold down MODE, but than when im not holding down MODE the wheel only adjusts the contrast of the screen... at all times i cant use it for anything else! also does the same thing with the play and stop buttons, only functioning properly when holding down MODE.

2. the mpc is also switching pad banks without me actually selecting a specific bank. its switching banks (mainly jumping to bank C) every time i press the "MAIN" or "MODE" button, heck even when i press some of the arrow buttons and also when im drumming on pads closest to the "MAIN" button.

and to make things really strange 80% of the time i dont even have to hit buttons, i could just hit the frame (body, the blue part) right next to the button area (right side of the device) and banks will switch to bank C!!! i would set it back to bank A and tape the mpc (same pressure as i would pounding a pad) anywhere on the frame and it twitches to other banks!

its as if its getting mixed signals or something. I cant operate it right... buttons are performing functions that dont belong to them. i want to say its software but when it switched banks after i tapped the frame im thinking its hardware!?

Im honestly really depressed this is happening and i cant stop thinking about it... im really bummed out about it. if you also treat your mpc like your new born child you'd know how i feel right now... please help

note: running a jjos1 4.99 unpaid yet (so i cant save). the bank switching problem has been occurring before i installed jjos1 4.99(i want to give as much information as possible to help some1 figure this out)

how could software be responsible for a problem that occurs when you touch the frame of the machine?

of course this is a hardware problem. you're going to have to get this repaired.

Open the unit.

-Check the flat wires running from the right PCB, perhaps (gently) pull them out and reseat them in their connectors.

-Check som there isn't any tact switches thats got stuck in a permanent "pressed" position.

-Make sure none of the plastic parts of the buttons has gone losse and wedged itself against any tact switch.

-Make sure there are no other objects or dirt between the case and the PCB that might press against something or is conductive and shorts some rails on the PCB (check underneath).

I've had stuff similar to this after fixing switches and stuff on the PCB and not reseating it properly while powering up to check all's ok before putting it all back permanently. Metal parts from the casing messing with the rails causing all kinds of flickering stuff.

hmm... i got it open and when you say "right PCB" do you mean the right side when its open and face down or the other way?

it also seems like there is more than one layer of boards... should i be looking into the layer deeper down (when the mpc is face down) towards the buttons?

Yes, right hand side while standing bottom down, face up. The PCB beneath the transport/buttony part of the MPC. Can't see why you should flip it over and dig yourself in there.

I would've checked the visible parts and underneath the PCB, anything that might press against something, electrically short something or not be properly seated.

ya your right i didn't think i could open it the other way. i guess because i had it face down, to unscrew it, i took the bottom off and kept it that way. Strangely i didn't have to get into the side that your talking about (face up side) and this was before i read your last message, i just took an air can and blew in there (maybe blew some dust around) and now its working just fine! hopefully i dont see any glitches down the line, but if i do then i know to check the PCB on the face up side of the MPC!

Honestly if it wasn't for your advice i would of never dared to open it.... Thanks for looking out! i really mean it, like i said this sampler is my baby.



...by the way im really digging your music, i have an ear for it. besides music production im a fine artist/graphic designer and i can swear your work could pass for a soundtrack to some of my art. keep it up
