The MPC 3000 and U!

Hi!!!
I'm actually working on the MPC 2000 XL, but i don't really like the sound of the sampler ( not really deep ).
Lot of people told me to take a MPC 60 or a S950 with my 2000 XL, but i just tried a MPC 3000, and i think i'm in love with it, i tried the MPC 60 too, it's really powerfull and old school, the sound is a little dirty with a lot of bass but it's maybe a little too much for me.
For the MPC 3000, the sound was really clear but deep too and the filter is incredible.
So, actually i want to buy a MPC 3000, but it's really expensive.
For people who knows the MPC 3000, what do you think about it? what do you think about working with a MPC 3000 only, to sample, and edit sequence?
I know it's about finding our own way and equipment but i really need your advise to be sure that i will not regret if i buy it.

If you're happy with the way things work on a 2000XL, and you want the sound of the MPC 3000 on a budget, I'd recommend picking up an S3000.

That way you could use the S3000 to sample, then save the sound to a floppy and load it up on the 2000XL. From here you'd be able to work with the sample in the same way as one that was recorded using the 2000XL.

S3000s are relatively cheap in comparison to the MPC 3000. They don't have exactly the same sound, but believe me, it would be far superior to the sound of a 2000/XL (which sound identical to my ear - ie bad).

The MPC 2000/XL also reads S1000 disks, and what I've described above also works with an S1000.

Thank you Arks for your answer, but i think that when you sample with the S3000 and put it into the 2KXL to work on it, you loose some quality on the sound you sampled.

Another opinion about the MPC 3000? Do you think it's possible to use both his sampler and his sequencer to make beat?

Nope, no loss of quality that I'm aware of.. saving a file to disk and loading it in a different machine doesn't cause a loss in quality. I'm not sure where you got that idea from?

I used to make all my beats in this way using an S1000 and MPC 2000... so feel free to ignore my advice, but dont let that be your reason for doing so.

You might want to head for the 'MPC comparison' forum. People in this forum have spent the money for a 3000/60, we're not so concerned on cheap alternatives to doing so

It is, by a long way, the best MPC I have ever used, and don't regret getting rid of my 2500 with JJOS.

I have three mpcs - 3000, 2500 and 2000XL. If i had to recommend one from these to you it would definitely be the 3000. U can do same things with 3000 that you can do on a 2000XL. The sound is just SO MUCH BETTER. Believe me, tweaking sounds in 3000 is the shiznit. The machine just bangs. IT'S FAT GODDAMNIT.

Go for a 3000 if you can. If you can't go with a 3000, just pick some of them. They all do basically the same thing. Dilla/Dre/Hi-Tek makes dreams with a 3000, Pete Rock/Kev Brown makes dreams with 2000XL, Damu makes dreams with a 2000, 9th Wonder makes dreams with a 2500. The machine is NOT the wack factor of ur music if it's wack. It is u.

But yeah, mpcs are great tools. U get the job done very well with these machines. And remember - less is more.

I'll try the MPC 3000 again soon to accustom to it, then i'll probably buy it !
But i'm used to work with the graphic wave of the sample and timestrectch sometimes on the 2KXL, is it complicated to to get used to work with the MPC3K sampler?

Yea, forgot to mention that 3K doesn't have timestretch. But I guess, at least after your your last message, u already knew it

3K may feel kinda hard to get with after a 2KXL. At least I found it a bit harder 'cos there is no window button - each option has it's own path via other commandlists. Before rocking 3K, I only had experience with samplers with a graphic waveform display. 3K doesn't have it but I've realized that you don't need it. It just makes your music more unique when you can ONLY hear what's happening. That's the benefit of a 3K.

If you want, you will get used to the "sloppiness" and limitations of the machine (in comparsion to 2,5K for example) and that is the factor that will fortunately make your music better.

edit. make sure and get a Vailixi OS. It will make ur life a lot easier once it's installed.

Another difference that never seems to get mentioned is that the 3000 doesn't have the "UNDO SEQ" function.

I'm transitioning to the 3000 from an XL right now. I got my 3000 last Monday. The "Undo" button was my friend for a long time. I really miss that feature. From what I've noticed so far, there is only the erase button on the 3000. I just erase the note that was bad when I'm sequencing on it. The 3000 also has the "Help" button. I find this feature very useful. Its like having Mr. Linn right beside you, guiding you on the right path LOL.

you can do a undo func with the loop edit..its in the manual.ahah that help button is like a spirit talking to you..peace

Cool, I havn't even touched the loop edit button yet. I'll definitely look more into it in the manual. Thanks for that. But yeah, that help button is like some "Star Wars" stuff. Roger is like Obi Wan "Luke, Use the force". LOL

may the 3K be with me...ahahah i really think my 2500 sounding is a joke when it come to lowpass filter

Another question about the MPC 3000: Is it possible to transfer sounds comming from an ASR 10, S950, SP12... inside of the MPC 3000?
