Mpc 2000xl Step recording

I would like to learn how to step record. Does anyone know of any know of any tutorials. Can anyone instruct me. hmm hmm. I dont want to mention no names. Lampdog! Help a brother out.

As far as actually recording on the machine....it's fairly straightforward. From the Main Screen hit F1 to enter Step Mode...then use F1 to set the TC value to the value of steps you'd like to take. use the bar and step keys (above the play and record buttons) to move through the timing. 01 (bar) .01 (beat) .00 (tick)

tick values are the following:
12 ticks - 32nd note
24 ticks - 16th note
32 ticks - 8th note triplet
48 ticks - 8th note

If you're putting keys or something down that you'd like to specify duration with, hold the key down for as long as you'd like it to play, the metronome will start clicking on the second beat.

If you 'Open Window' you can set the auto step (this is good for doing hi-hats)...after each key/pad press the sequencer will automatically jump to the next step.

The second option sets if all notes will have a pre-set duration.

Im way puzzled...I have a sample from a funk band i took and chopped it into 16 chops. Im doing a 16 bar seq and I cant get the timing down even with quantize(which is not a surprise) , i take quantize off and still no luck, a bit better but no where near good. Can "step" help me with this? I have no idea how to use step even with the info already provided.....

my guess would be your tempo is wrong.

you should play the original loop, and tap the tempo out to get it close.

then, you put your chops at the appropriate places....if you cut it using default settings, then you will place them the exact same distance from each other....for example if it's a 4 bar loop and you have 16 chops, you will place one chop on every beat (assuming 4 beats per bar).
