ok i know some of you guys dont quantize but some of you guys do i have a questions for samplers and original composers

lets say you have about 12 chops set up for a seq ,do you guys quantize the samples/instruments?

and then lets say you wanna add some west coast swing @ like 59-63%

do you guys quantize the drums the same way as the sample?

what im trying to ask is if your using quantize do you just use it on your drums or do you use it on the instruments/samples too?

another question is for for vocal picthed samples opposed to sampling dark or bass oriented loops do you eq your samples like full low cuts from 100khz down ,or high pass filters or do you just wait for the final mix process

I quantize my drum hits & played notes mostly. I don't do much chopping if any TBH, but I'll timestretch/compress something if I need it to work within a project or something.

The key to getting real swing is when you highlight the timing resolution and hit the orange "window" button. There you're able to move your play data either forward or backwards by so many increments for a particular track to give it a rushed or laidback feel.

I too thought that by just adjusting the percentage within the main seq window was all I needed. But I eventually found out that there was more to it.

And as far as eq is concerned...yes, spice up those dulled out sounds/samples so that they can make a good ear impression.

Dab is a zin music master. However, don't go crazy on the eq. You want the mids and highs on the flat side just keep it in tune and key. Eq. Should be done after tracking imo. Swing.. keep play with the strength also. I like about 65-80 % max. Timing correct should only be done on drums hats snares class and keys. Imo...99% of the time posting after dab is pointless lol. He is usually right.

Just passing on a lil knowledge & some experiences. :)

Hi guys,

Dab I also thought that you just had to use the swing through the main window I'm not aware of the other aspects. Would you mind going into it a bit more? I've searched on the forum and picked up a few bits and pieces but it's something I struggle with immensely. It means that my drums sound robotic and not what I had in my mind whatsoever. I struggle with double kicks etc. If anyone has the knowledge and doesn't mind passing on some I'd be grateful.
