MPC 2OOO EXTERNAL ZIP AND BOOTING

WHATS UP EVERY ONE ....THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME I AM THE NEWEST SUBSCRIBER TO THIS GREAT FORUM UNFORTUNATELY ITS AN ISSUE THAT BRINGS ME HERE TO DAY HAHAHA

HERE'S MY ISSUE I HAVE A AKAI 2000 AND MY BOOT DISK THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY WORKING CORRECTLY NOW DOES NOT BOOT. THE DISC I HAD WAS NOT WORKING EASILY SO I THREW IT OUT AND PURCHASED 1.72 VERSION AND EXTERNAL ZIP WHICH IS THE CORRECT DRIVE BC I TESTED IT OUT ON MY FRIENDS...I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION I COULD BYPASS THE BOOT W/ THE FLOPPY BY JUST BOOTING FROM EXTERNAL DRIVE...IS THAT BS I HEARD OR UNDERSTOOD....PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME NUTS...

ALSO IF THATS NOT POSSIBLE IS THERE ANYWAY TO BYPASS THE FLOPPY AL-2GTHR? I THINK I SAW THAT YOU COULD ALSO USE EXTERNAL CD DRIVES...

Help please....I appolgize if there has already been ten threads on exact issue...Thanx a bunch...I am a musician not a dam IT guy

Yes, you can boot from the zip drive and skip the floppy drive completely. If you have a zip drive and a bootable zip disk, then it should work. Which zip drive did you buy? Does it have two little switches between the connectors on the rear and do you have both of those switches in the down position? If not, you should. Make sure that you power on the drive, load the disk into the drive and then power on the MPC. It should find the zip drive and boot straight away.

If this is not what is happening, then please tell us what is happening, with as much detail as possible.

OK I PURCHASED IOMEGA ZIP100 (SWITCHES ON BACK BLUE IN COLOR)
JUST NOW I FOLLOWED WHAT YOU SAID IN ALL VARIATIONS
ALTERNATING WHICH FEMALE PLUG CABLE GOES AND SWITCHING 5 AND 6
AND IT SHOWS IOMEGA ON BOTH 6 AND 7
WHEN LEFT SWITCH IS DOWN IT SAYS IOMEGA WHEN ITS DOWN IT DOES NOT
IN ALL CASES IT ASKS FOR BOOT DISC AND YOU CAN HEAR FLOPPY WAITING FOR DISC....

Both switches must be down because the SCSI ID must be on 5 and you want termination enabled. If the MPC is not booting off the zip drive, the either the zip drive is bad or the zip disk you have is not bootable.

oK WELL MUST BE THE DISC THEN B.C I HAVE USED IT BEFORE...I BOUGHT THE DISC ONLINE FOR $16....HOPE THATS THE ISSUE...WHICH SIDE DOES CABLE GO TO ON ZIP LEFT OR RIGHT

The cable should be connected to the left side, the one that says "Zip" over it.

With 'any' zip drive usb, parallel, scsi) connected to a pc, you can copy the exe and sys files (these files are needed to boot the MPC).Go to http:/www.forat.com, click on 'Drum Machines', click on 'MPC Customization', click on 'MPC2000', click on 'Download the latest MPC 2000 OS'. save file to pc hard drive. FAT-format zip disk using pc. Copy the sys and exe file to zip disk. You should have a bootable disk for your MPC2000. Cost: $0 + your time ( a few minutes).

Also, connect scsi cable to zip drive left-side port. Should be up and running. peace.

What's up everybody? I'm having a problem similar to the one listed in this old post so as opposed to posting a new thread I figured I'd seek help here. First let me say I tried everything in this post. After my floppy drive on my MPC 2000 stopped working I formatted a zip drive FAT on a PC and copied the MPC 2000 OS Version 1.72 sys & exe files onto the zip. My external zip has always been correctly connected via scsi to my MPC but I double checked my connections and settings to make sure everything matched that of the instructions posted in this thread. I power the ZIP drive up first, then my MPC, but upon powering up the MPC the only thing that happens is "MPC2000 Boot ROM V1.00" reads on the screen. The machine does not cycle through scsi connections or even the floppy for that matter. Finally, after about 30 seconds, it reads "Disk read error !!" What do I do???? Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!
