Firewire mixer or not? MPC 1000

I want to run my 6 mono outs from my mpc 1000 to a mixer for minor mixing of my drums and ultimately track them out to my mbox2. I'm aware that all drums will end up going thru the mbox via one input however I want to separate the drums and then do a final mix in protools. I have a Beringer Xenex however I hate the sound (or maybe I’ve done something wrong on the setup?) I'm sort of new to the analog and digital blend.

I've searched the forum however I don't see anyone speak of this set up? Maybe I need to search a little more? Is it better to purchase a fire wire mixer or stay analog?

Also, I plan on purchasing a Motif or Roland rack sound module so I want to run that thru the mixer also. Should I upgrade to a Digi 003?

Can anyone point me to a thread or give me an idea of what type of mixer would be ideal for this?

The Mackie 1202 VLZ3 (or if you can afford one of the larger ones) would be a good choice.

Their not amazing or anything but they are clean
and have fairly decent EQ, and the usual aux sends
and even a way you can use two sets of monitors so
it sort of doubles up as a studio monitoring system as well.
Also half decent mic pres if you need them.

To record each sound/track individually
You will need to send a midi time code from your MPC to Pro tools or from Pro Tools to your MPC, solo each instrument individually and record them individually as you pass the track from start to finish. It would be a good idea to separate your bass lines, kik, snares, hats on to separate tracks. In fact put as much as you can on separate tracks. Can get a little tedious, but its the only way your going to be able to do it unless you upgrade your interface to one that has multiple in puts.
