What To Do Next?!?!

Whats good ya'll...I gotta quick question on what I should get next to help me creativley with my MPC1000.

I'm currently dorming in college and don't have much space to put bulky equipment in my room, plus my cash is low from this tuition (working with 200 bones). I was thinking a small mixer board so I adjust my samples sound before chopping. Or something I could sample directly from my laptop into my MPC instead of using the USB cord.

If you were using the 1000 by itself what would be the next step for you??

Thanks man. Yea I have records back home I have to go and get...but I sold my old mixer (tascam dp 02) cuz I didnt really like how the workflow was with the MPC. And whats a better brand mixer to buy??

with just mpc, I dont really see a need for a mixer, some type of preamp with eq should do you just fine...just about any cheap dj mixer should do the job

do u have a turntable? i ment a dj mixer just to sample vinyl into the mp, denon mixers can be low cost and decent for sampling

I dont have a dj turntable, i'm looking into that as we speak, like one of those starter technics. I think ya'lls options will do me good cuz I know those wont take up much space and i can get back to collecting records.

unless your planing on spinning and scratching you wont need to get to expesive of turtable, so all u have is mpc and a pc right now right?

Yea thats all I have right now. I don't scratch, all I wanna do is use viynl and turntables to sample cuz I notice I can catch samples better than what I could if I just sit on a laptop and listen then have to be all technical with chopping and editing...I just wanna use my MPC to get my chops and once thats done go into my laptop and make slight corrections to my overall samples, then place them back into the MPC then go to work.

hop craigslist or ebay and find a table and mixer, edit ur samples in the mp and cut the pc outta the process

if you do decide you want to use the PC. it can be usefull at times, time strectching and stuff. get a card reader for the pc and transfer the samples that way.

USB mode is okay for backing up your MPC, but its bullsh!t for quickly transfering a sample, the time it takes to mount really kills the workflow.

My advice.. be you first. Sample yourself. Less gear better flavor. Mpc and MAC with logic = win. Oh and a MIDI controller.

how about a microphone?
a shure sm57 is damn cheap.

get a cable so you can sample breaks/beats from your Ipod.. Unless you have a vinyl collection , turntable, etc, then investing in that would be a step backwards. Take up lots of space, weighs a ton, need a mixer, etc.. keep it simple, learn your MPC.
