nah just reinstall your programs.

now my monitor function is out of wack. i have two monitors but xp doesnt read it.. i go to display settings and it doesnt allow me to identify monitors

you need to get the right driver for your graphics card.

if you don't know what graphics card you got.

go to device manager ( under control panel )
find the graphics card under display adapters, if the driver isn't installed you'll see something on like a yellow exclamation mark or something.

right click and do properties,

go to the details tab and select hardware ID's from the drop down list.

you'll find something like VEN_8086&DEV_2A43 your numbers after the VEN and DEV will be different.

the VEN is the manufacture and the DEV is the model if you google that you'll find out what graphics card you got.

xp works nicely.. but ok heres my more or less last problem. it wont connect to the internet..and im guessing i need this for updated monitor drivers.. i tried the network wizard etc... yet when the same cable is pluggd in the same computer but when booting to vista, the internet works? just not in xp?

DJ Hellfire has got tuning pc's for Pro Tools down to a fine art, so maybe hit him up if you're struggling.

do that thing I showed you in the previous post with the VEN_ and DEV_ tell me what they are and I'll sort out the links for you. ( for both the network card and the graphics card)

the add network wizard won't work if it can't see the hardware.

then you can boot into vista download them, save them somewhere, boot into xp and install them

a lot more drivers are built in with vista.

damn mann.. im in need a major help with this. its like all the stuff u usually can do to resort for troubleshooting isnt available for me. whyyy!!!!(echoooss)

choose your model, look for xp drivers:

if you havent already, download and install all service packs for xp in corresponding order, I think there is 3, 2 for sure...that could solve some driver issues.

FYI service packs are culmative, i.e. Service Pack 3 includes service pack 2 & 1.

and service packs are unlikely to add drivers for third party display or network cards.

you need to identify what display adapter you have and download the drivers.

if you have to take the lid of the machine and read the model number of the card

while service packs may not include drivers for 3rd party hardware, they may provide generic type of driver to get it working

@konc3pt i am not trying to knock the advice your giving or start an argument but your barking up the wrong tree.

he already has a generic driver because he can see what is on his screen, he needs the real 3rd party driver to enable both his displays to work a generic windows display driver is only going to give you one screen and not even support all the resolutions / refresh rates that the hardware does. all he needs to do is put a little effort and find out what card he has and download the driver.

thank you to all who lend there wisdom but stupid me why didnt i think of this before.. the cd's that came with my dell in a drawr this whole time.. i remembered them out of the blue and lookd for them.. and what do you know, the drivers for it are all there.. so it works nicely now! appriciate all the support though.. might be looking into getting a 24in cleaan widescreen monitor.. any suggestions? low on budget!
