drum loops

hey guys, this is a really novice question here, but seeing as i'm a novice i could do with a little help. when i sample a drum beat from my records i go to my trim page and set the loops. when i play these back in the trim page they sound perfect. not a single blip. but when i begin a sequence and put my drum beat in the sequence it definitely doesn't sound as smooth as in the trim page. there seems to be a very small but noticeable break between the end of the sequence and when it re-starts again. why is this? i check the bpm in the parameters and set it for the sequence, i turn the loop off in the trim page and simply set the loop from the beginning of the bar. i dont understand why it doesn't sound as smooth. hope you guys understand this question. many thanks.

Well I have an MPC500 though, but what I do is, when the sequence is in overdub, I adjust the BPM until the metronome sounds perfectly in synch with my sample. Try that.

Maybe your sample is 89 bpm but the sequence is at 88.4 That small fraction of difference can be the culprit.

i've tried these things. still no joy. changing the tempo doesn't suit what i'm doing. i just cant quite get the loop to sound as smooth as on the trim page. maybe i'm just a little too fussy. i check the parameters on my trim page and it says 75bpm so i set the bpm of my sequence to 75bpm. i automatuically thought this loop would sound the same as on the trim page. maybe i shall just have to time stretch it a tiny bit.

My advice would be not to loop it in the trim screen, set the loop to mono in the program, put it at the start of the sequence, and mess with the tempo til it loops perfect.

yef definately, don't actaualy use the loop function, just retrigger it. maybe send it to your computer and timestrectch it in soundforge to your exact tempo.

i've been messing about with this all day and i finally think i found where i was going wrong. i had the loop mode turned off on trim page and then used the step edit to place my loop. this seemed to cut off a tiny piece of the sample at the end, making it sound awful. so i went back to the trim page and turned the loop mode back on. then went back to my sequence and simply played the loop ny holding in the pad. all smooth now as you can tell, i'm only beginiing sampling but already addicted. cheers for the help guys. i'm sure this isn't the last you've heard from me

Your loop sample when played down was not as long as your bars

thats how i do it, way faster.

I leave my loops a tiny bit too long, aand set the sample to mono. It will cut itself off when it needs to begin again.
