I just bought (like, 5 hours ago) my first MPC. At home, I realized I don't have fitting stereo out cables, only normal RCA cables. I just got home, I'm tired and pissed off, and I just want to make sure the damn thing works. The power goes on etc, but I can't get any audio out on monitors. So, I got headphones that fit the slot, but no audio out. Do I have some setups wrong or does the MPC really need the audio out cables plugged before any audio comes out even from headphones?

Like I said, I'm tired and new to the MPC, way too tired to start reading the manual thoroughly, I'm not gonna make any beats today. I just wanna hear the demo song play so I know the machine works (manual said the demo song is titles 01 - DemoSequence, I have only 01-Sequence, does that make any different?) so if someone out there would please tell me what I'm doing wrong here - fast help would be very appreciated so I can go to sleep peacefully.

It took you only 30 minutes t figure it out all by yourself.

How long did it take to startup your PC, login on the net, click on MPC-forums, look for the subject, create a new thread, write a question, waiting for the answer.................................

Less than 5 minutes. Don't be a dick.

I'd hate to see what happens if something really important and urgent happens ... do you take hostages and start executing people? :)

That's an option.

Last night I drove 800 kilometers to buy this machine, paid a little more than I could afford, the damn car stopped a couple of times on its own - I still can't figure out why - and english isn't my native language, so technical manuals aren't the easiest reading to me. All these combined to the fact that I couldn't get any audio out of my headphones made me write to the forums in an angry hast. I figured out that because of the specific subject area of the forum and vast userbase, I would get factual answers fast. Boy was I wrong.

well noone's going to bother answering it now that you've said you solved the problem yourself!

and it's not really surprising to have to wait more than 30 minutes for an answer ... that's not so long

Point taken. So I will answer my own question: no, you don't need to plug in audio out. Headphones will do. If you have purchased a used item, the previous owner might have changed the autoload folder location (or better created a new autoload folder which is different from the pre set one). Check the ROM for the factory set autoload folder (Mode + Disk (pad3) -> ROM Flash -> Autoload).

Well if you ask simple questions and say that you don't feel like reading the manual you can expect people to be dicks.

800 km for an MPC is stupidity or pure love for the MPC. I'll say love, but if you did it for an MPC500................

The seller refused to mail it. I live in a country where used MPC's are pretty damn rare - at least working ones. The ones that actually is OK are very damn expensive, most sellers know the rarity and the prices are to the roof. This one was in great condition and relatively cheap but had to be picked up. That's a no-brainer for me.
Simple questions are, in fact, simple questions. You can pretty much get answer to all the questions in the world by reading, but thank Baby Jesus we have such helpful forums to help you out on - simple questions.

Go to your glove compartment and RTFM!

Yes, thanks for the input. I don't have a manual for the car, but got a couple of good ideas what the reason might be - most likely the filters need to be replaced. So glad that you are interested on my car troubles.

stay on topic. Either you fixed the problem or you did not. Re post the question. Give the specific fault. List model mpc. OS version. Daw and computer or mac version OS. Audio interface if any MIDI controller/ and or keyboard. When you do this, you will find that people will ne more than willing to help. Your problems outside music production are none of our concern.
