ive been using chops and not loops for awhile now and i have learned the adsr, filter, and some effects tricks to get the chops to flow but what else is there? namely compressor settings that will help my chops sound like they are all the same melody? check this: i take some small stabs and leave them a little spaced out what do yall do to get the transitions from one chop to the next smooth? you know to smooth out the peaks and valleys? i have a compressor but i am straight retarded w/ it i need some help. thanks!
peace.

les mccann samples are what im using here......for those who care..

dunno if this will work but whenever i chop a sample, i piece it back together as one whole sound by using the "Insert Sample> Start of Zone" thing......it always seems to work with me.

when you are chopping....

when you choose "slice sound" to make a new program of your individual chops, the default decay setting is 30.....change it to zero so that the chops are more precise, instead of the XL adding its 30 ms decay on each one. Makes them more precise, so they flow together better.

When you select "Slice sound" it shows on the screen "Decay:30"...just change it to zero before you press "Do it" and you should be good.

i usally make it 6 instead of zero or it will be real choppy

I'll try that, although I havent had problems with putting it at zero.

Depends on the sample and the chops, I guess.

yeah that decay adds a little space to the sample so it will fade right. It does depend on the sample though like u said. if u got something with a long sustain like a guitar note then it might help to raise it up.

i just can't leave any space between the chops or it sounds odd i guess. i am trying to use the mix to fix it but thats not really the solution. i want it to sound right on the mpc first and mixer second. as for the decay i never change the zone screen settings but do it in params. thanks for the feedeback.

Maybe try a bit of verb (with the decay set not too long.)

Actually, on many records, I LIKE when sh!t sounds choppy and chopped up. I like hearing the fact that I'm listening to a sampler, and not a real player. It makes it sound more collage-ish and abstract.

i use chops al the time.. and i never use the zone option. I find I a not usable feature (for me that is)

when ever I take chops from lets say a loop. I select the part that i want > edit > section new sound and from there i go edit and fine chop it!

and so on and so on with al the other chops!!

leave some exta mili seconds over from the sample.. and then in programs you just set the decay for the smootness haha!

you can do all of this in about 3 seconds automatically in recycle, then dump to MPC

add some effects like delay or some reverb will smooth out your chops. Also make sure you by sound not by notes when you want to chop but when you want to loop make sure its by notes...
