Pads dying

Can the pad sensor be repaired without replacing the whole thing (sheet)

Is it possible to repair one or two of the pads only? ( all of my pads worked, then a few started acting funny) i replaced the rubber but after doing that i lost my first row of pads and one on the 2nd row.
I do have another sensor on a 2000 but it seems to be glued on. How do i first test my xl sensors, then if necessary, remove them and replace with the sensors from my 2000?

I've seen a guy on youtube replace a couple pads, but majority of the producers on these forums thats been with akai for a while will advise you to go ahead and replace all 16 pads, because when a couple die out it's an indication that in the near future the other one's will follow suit.

And to check your pads, here's a link which gives you some tips on reaching "hidden screens" within your MPC2000. one of them is a "pad check" screen.

Disconnect the sensor connector from its header.

Clean it thuroughly.

Also clean the contacts in the header.

Re-seat it.

I've seen sensors fail on one, 4, misc combos of pads - even ALL.... just due to crappy contact.

Try that. If that doesn't do it, replace the sensor.

Thanks, im going to try and clean them tonight. Selling the 2000 tomorrow so i hope cleaning and researing works

Ok so i took out the connection, cleaned it (blew on it nintendo cartridge style) and its now working again... Probably wasn't seated correctly. Thanks again for your help and i hope it works for others.

i dunno. i dont want it to be a deeper problem. i had to clean it with a few cotton balls & alcohol, i didnt have the alcohol prep pads.im hoping i didnt make a bigger problem. it still plays just not on the pads.

is that something i should worry about?
