Here you go - it won't win any photography prizes but this is the screen in daylight. Its made a lot of difference and was well worth it.

Looks pretty bright! How's the contrast of the letters? Is it pretty similar to a stock backlight?

b.read - the contrast of the letters is fine - i find it really easy to read the screen now. I'd say its totally similar to a standard backlight.

I've actually had mine for awhile...just haven't gotten around to installing it yet

trust me - its real easy to do The trickiest bit was keeping an eye all the screws safe and making sure I didn't dislodge any connections.

You basically

1) Unscrew the unit
2) Undo the connection between the old backlight and the PCB (i.e. not at the 'screen' end but at the other end)
3) Attach the connection between the new backlight and the PCB
4) Slide new backlight behind old one (this is at the screen end)
5) Close unit and re-attach screws.


next stage now is to practice soldering and desoldering so I can

i) remove the old screen (remember the old one is still in there - although it doesn't affect the mpc at all - no high pitched noises or anything)

ii) work on getting the tact switches and jog wheel fixed.

I must've bought a different one then...the instructions I have say that the old one is removed to install the new one..

Hmm, well you can remove the old one I guess - its just that I reckon that would need some desoldering...

When Im feeling brave I'll probably take the old screen out - looks like I just need to desolder the two points where its attached.
