MPC 2000 8 assignable mix out / midi

In the mixer function / open window there can be different pads (after set in program) sent to (one or) two assignable mix out from 1 to 8.

I use a midi keyboard with recordings in a track (Pgm: off) and my problem is to assign this to the assignable mix out from 1 to 8.

Can someone help me with this ?

or some alternative way, another mpc ?

The 8 outs does not work on a track by track basis...it works on a pad basis.

So you must assign the pads to the outputs, then tracks become irrelevant.

MPC 'tracks' = MIDI ONLY

I understand that it is impossible to assign midi trough one of these outs ?
And also on the 2500 or 4000 not possible ?


I am new in home recording and want to make this happen, do you now some other type of gear can be used to create looping bars played with midi or live recording ? (that isn't a studio mixer á 10.000$)

you need a mixer.
you can find one at a reasonable price.

I think it's unclear what you are trying to do.

Are you talking about MIDI or Audio?

If you are talking about MIDI, then the MPC is your best friend in this regard! Simply set up your sequence to a few bars, make sure it is set to loop, and hit record. You can hook up a midi keyboard, and play it as you are recording, and when the loop comes back around, it will play what you just recorded. You either need to have sounds in your mpc for the midi to trigger, or you need to have a midi cord going back OUT to a sound generator. Also, make sure your track is set to send midi on the same channel the sound generator receives.

If you are talking about looping live recorded AUDIO (like a guitarists loop pedal)...then you will need a newer mpc (2500 I think) or a loop pedal.

But consider this: The subject of this thread is '8 assignable mix out / midi' and those two things have NOTHING to do with one another...so maybe explain in a bit more detail what you are trying to do.

No you can't do that with an older mpc.
You MIGHT be able to do it with a newer one, but I don't know.
That is where a loop pedal or program comes in handy.

FYI, that has nothing to with midi, or the 8 outs ;]

I don't work with computers ; ) Want/ need to do this with the mpc, because i have a multi-track recorder (akai DPS16), for mastering, thats why the 8 outs are important. Eventualy one other option could be buying alternative hardware if this exists..


I think there is a solution in this set-up, but without the mpc-keyboard midi connection it would be so much esier...


What do you mean with loop pedal ?

You cannot sample and playback live on an mpc 2000 or XL. Sampling runs entirely independently of sequencing.
At the very least, you have to sample, and then assign it to a pad, and then trigger that pad. You cannot record a sample then immediately playback and dub over that.

You could do it if you had the samples already in your mpc and you are just sequencing.

I use a Line6 DL4 to do this and it is awesome. It is nothing at all like an MPC.

Another option is Electro Harmonix looper, I don't know the name but if you google 'loop pedal' or even type that into youtube you will see exactly what you are looking for.

Beardyman, a master of the art, uses a Boss Loopstation.

As I mentioned you MIGHT be able to do this with a new MPC (2500, 1000, or 5000), but I do not know, I have only heard rumours.

ensoniq samples will play the input live through the main outs.

so will modern mpc machines 1000 and above.

But...can you then immediately keep the just-captured sample playing, and then capture another one?

I cannot do that on my Ensoniq EPS.

It's possible to end up with the same result - that can be done on most samplers but, as nogginj points out, you cannot do it in real-time like that.

Well I hate to say 'cant be done'...
You could do it if you could somehow hack an MPC 2kxl and an arduino controlling the function buttons. If the OS is fast enough, or you could rewrite it...you could do it on an old mpc.

Hopefully some expert in programming software for mpc will do something with this..
