I went to my first BM this year and as a London boy was pleasantly surprised by all the dubstep (and dubstep lite ;) )... at times there was almost nothing else playing!

I know! Like 90% all of all music there. Some of my friends went insane trying to find other sounds. Did you go with one of the camps from London?

no, me and a mate from London went over on our own and camped with some friends of friends, most of them from the bay area (isn't almost everyone at BM from the bay area?! :) )

This automated LFO is really great, the only thing I don't like is the fact that you have to assign one q-lik to filter and the other to speed, and you have to tweak both of them continuosly to get it to wobble all the way rheough your loop. Anyone else found a workaround? PS, any tips regarding synthesis would be greatly appreciated, so far I'm stacking a sine, triangle, and pulse to get a nice fuzzy sound with some sub-bass at the low end, with a triangle wav on the lfo section. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

on my machine I make a a sound externally that has a wobble in it and record it normally as a sample.... then with the mpc's internal 16 levels tuning the LFO goes slower automatically on lower notes since it is stretched out. just set the pad it cut itself off and you're good. okay it isn't doing it live via automation however it works. You could instead just do other types of tweaking live.

Can you explain what kind of sounds you're usuing? like which wavforms do you prefer?

no

just make your favourite wobble... take a note in the middle of the note range you plan on using for the melody (ie: C3 or something... if your melody uses notes from C2 up to C4... take C3) put a medium LFO on it... cause the lower the note chances are you will want the lfo lower, right? usually faster LFOs are on the higher notes... right? so sample that C3 with medium speed lfo.... then turn on 16 levels tuning (chromatic tuning) and play it... . . . enjoy the result.

I am not one of those people who uses only such and such a wave form, or sound or synth patch... or what ever. Every song has a new sound in it... I wont make 10 tracks with that same sound wobbling in it, sure I might have 10 tracks with an LFO wobble in it but it wont be the same sound wobbling....

real sine wave sounds dont work with low pass filters, but often you might encounter synth patches called or named sine wave bass or something like that. those work..... the best results come from synths that are more lower mid. Sub bass synth patches aren't as great for that wobble effect if you are LFO-ing a low pass filter.

you can wobble anything and make it sound good... I have a track where I wobbled the native instruments hammond B3 VST pluggin.... but I also have wobbled synth sounds I made from scratch on an electribe EA-1 by tweaking the knobs to get the synth sound... and I did manual wobbles on a kaoss pad 2. Record the wobble movement with the pad motion switch... then sample that externally into other gear...

music isn't a specific thing like "what ________ do you use for your songs"

OK, what I took from that last post was, just try anything and use what sounds good. That was always my approach for doing anything creative, sometimes you can use shortcuts though, It's nice to know exactly how to make the sound you want so you can get straight to programming the melody.

here's what's been working for me...

instrument program
sine wav -90
pulse wav -4
saw wav -1

it's honestly that subtle, I gotta use mostly sine and very little saw or pulse to get the sub bass that I'm after, just a little saw goes a long way to add that midrange grit.

Then the way LFO automation works in 1.42 is one slider adjusts the filter intensity (not frequency, we'll have to have a talk with JJ about this) then the other slider adjusts the LFO speed, so I play my little bassline then I overdub the LFO tweaks and I got wobblin fun for days! I'm on the hunt for nasty bass patches, I'd like to get some patches from the blofield, or any of those other synths you guys like to use and wobble the hell out of them!

I'll upload some of my fav homemade patches tomorrow, until then, here's a couple hundred multissampled vintage analogue synths you can download for free (legal too!) :

right, and I forgot that this was specific about doing the wobble inside the box (jjos) my original thing was suggesting to just sample a sound that has a wobble already and use the 16 levels....

I wouldn't even bother attempting it in the box for good wobble results even though it most likely is quite possible to get great results.

If u hit me off with some MPC wobble patches I will no doubt tweak them and hit you back.
