MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Having seen the posts here and the videos on Youtube regarding the failure of the MPC5000 backlight boards, I contacted the importer in Australia. They got back to me and said that they had only come across one instance of failure here. I would like to do some preventive maintenance on my MPC just in case however (I run a synthesiser service centre in Australia). Does anyone have any further info or photo's of board failures? From what I have seen it looks like a cap that burns, but I don't know whether the fault is due to a bad batch of caps, or of the cap was under-spec'd in the design, of of the cap is a victim of another component failing down the line.

If we can come up with further information I will work out a fix and implement it on my machine and post details here. For any MPC5000 owners in Sydney I am happy to replace the part with no labour charge if your machine is out of warranty if we can somehow determine which component is causing this.

It's not just the cap, there is something else that breaks further down the line.
Most repair people tell me they have never heard of this so it seems like it was a bad batch.

I lost man....... akai beat me, akai beat their own customer.

I've owned an mpc2500, an EWI, and mfc42 an ME30PII midi patch bay and an mpc5k....... and akai still decided to take the piss on me.

The machine is currently in a repair shop as I was never able to fix it myself... it's going to cost me $400+ to fix it.... once it's fixed I am getting rid of that poisoned devil and going back to yet another akai product, the mpc2500....... but that one I do trust, not because of Akai, but ecause of JJ. ; )

You know its bad when your products from 18+ years ago are just starting to break down now, who the hell is running them the now?

It's like we are being forced into going the software route :?

doesn't their new product line indicate they want that?
