How many tracks does it take you to make a tune?

No more than 20. Drum tracks usually consist of Hi-hat, Kik, snare, and back ground percussion.

Multiple sounds and samples push it to 11 to 16 usually.

I usually go from 2-traks up to 24 tracks.

I'll say that a lot of katz around here go straight audio and choose not to track with midi.

Midi tends to act as the framework that eventually becomes the final product. I build most of my tracks by starting things off like this.

So with that said (& you don't have to be ashame if you don't know how to work with midi), how many of you don't use this process?

This can include working midi tracks on your mpc too.

I wish I had more MIDI knowledge .. care to make a basic tutorial? I would read it and try to give it a go..

Ghost, I want to believe you, but something tells me you're pulling my leg. However, if this is the case with you, what is it that you want to zero in on?

to swith it up from time to time i'll do drum in the mp as normal and then trigger drums though midi in reason to layer it up some, my mp is always the master for cubase and reason

On topic approx. 20 tracks, but that's simply because my laptop won't allow for any more without crumbling. I do tend to use a fair bit of automation, but still this little machine may need upgrading soon.

^^^ Yeah, that's another thing that affects track count...automation, vsti's, dsp.

Yeah that is basically what takes up half the tracks in some of my projects...

cuts/scratches/drops/efx returns/etc 4

It would be nice to have an unlimited track count, but if I can't get it done in 16,
I'm doing it wrong.
