hellouha there :)

I am a proud owner of 2 roland sp808´s, and really love(d) them for my 2-man bands purpose. Now these machines get old and buggy, so we bought a roland sp606.

but actually .. we´re shocked! It doesnt meet up our expectations at all.

What we do is the following: i use 2 machines, with both having the similar content. Each bank has 16 samples .. we have about 30 banks all in all. I then just loop these samples .. and combine them. so i dont need any sequencing features.

therefor my questions regarding the mpc 1000 (i searched the web and also these forums here, but didnt find the answers):

- is there something like "padbanks" (samplebanks) in the mpc? And if so: how many are there?
- can i loop these samples .. is there something like a "hold" button? or "loop" button? to make the samples loop?

thats all for now .. cheers all, and thanks for reading :)

4 pad banks (A, B, C, D) with 16 pads so thats 64 pads for one progam.

Yes you can loop samples. I have a 2000xl, not a 1000, but I'm sure it's just as easy to loop on the 1000 as it is on the 2000xl.

Answer your questions?

thanks .. ;)

ouch .. only 4 pad banks .. we need about 40 or so. so this machine wont be an option. thanks though for the fast feedback.
take care!

there's four pad banks PER PROGRAM!!! You can have up to 24 programs stored in the mpc1000

thanks, and sorry that i didnt get it. I am not familiar with "programs", when talking about the mpc1000. in fact, i have no clue about these mpc´s at all.

okay: so i have enough padbanks available in the mpc1000. thats good!

So are there any limits for our purpose? Like "you can only import 200 audiofiles" (its like this in the sp606)?

And how much storage can i use? 128mb? or even more?
I read that the mass storage can be up to 2 gigs .. so whats this 128mb limit about?
for playing live it would be tiptop to have more than 128mb storage available, for the samples. possible?

cheers,

:)

and thanks again.

thanks for the video link .. :) .. but unfortunately it didnt really answer me my questions.

i´ll tell again what i do live, this time in a diffrent way:

1. I create all samples in logic 6. That means that the samples themselves dont need any further tweaking in the machine that is supposed to give me the possibilities i need.

2. We have about 10 songs, and each of them has about 4-12 pad banks with 16 samples each. (right at the moment we need about 45 padbanks for all the songs).

3. playing live all i do is these 2 things: i fire the samples, and have them looped. this way i combine the samples ..
the 2nd thing i do is filtering the output of one of the machines .. so i need cutoff and reso. (which is something the mpc1000 offers, right?)

thats all.

No sequencing, no programming .. just being able to fire and shoot samples with a bit of filtering.

( here´s a video of what we do: http://www.puttespricht.de/putteUNDedga ... er_live.rm )

i think i now learned that the samples in a mpc need to be loaded into RAM, so 128 would be the limit.
As we´re used to have 100mb on our sp808´s i could live with that.

important would be: switching from one bank to the next bank, in a convenient way.

The sp808 (beside the poor polyphony) is a perfect machine for our needs, but unfortunately its so hard to get a new machine over here, and as we already bought one from ebay, which then went buggy after only 2 months .. well, we´re sceptical now.

so if the mpc1000 would give us what we want .. would be top!

cheers again,

If you won't be doing any sequencing or programming with it, an mpc could be a little overkill. Have you looked into the akai s -sampler series? Then again they would of course have to be triggered from somewhere else..

If you do decide to go the mpc route then you shouldn't have any trouble changing between banks. I'm not that familiar with the 1k but on the XL it's easy as pie. There's four pad bank buttons that you can use to change the banks in the program, and you can change the program easily from the main screen by turning the wheel.

You can set the resolution and the decay value as you wish.

Try checking out the manual online, it should give you a clue about how the machine works.

all your loops are made at the same tempo. yeh? exported from logic. your not going to need the most hardcore sampler. you could always go an akai s2000 or s3000. use a keyboard to trigger loops along side your sp808's. any extra 32 note poly and 32 mb of samples should keep your sets juiced. maybe even an su700 i have one of these. its got 64mb of ram for triggering one shots and tempo sync loops.

thanks cheech and nano .. :)

thing is:

we need 2 machines replacing our sp808´s, as they are too damaged meanwhile.
And coming from 100mb i actually dont want to have less for the samples.
And i dont want to have samplers that i have to connect keyboards to ..

the su700 can only cary about 64 mb, right? thats not enough ..

It really seems as if there arent many people using such machines the way we do .. :? .. even though its such a simple and basic demand we have:

- lots of banks
- at least 100mb for the samples on the pads

thats it.

cheers, and thanks again for taking your time to give me advices .. well appreciated.

yes .. the samples are ready to go after they leave logic. Just need to make them loop inside the machine for live, and there we go.
