do mp3's load all the same?

why are there wav. AND mp3 versions of the samps in the loadable memory? can anyone shed some light? is it a sacrifice quality for memory space type of thing or what? because the mp3 versions do not even preview while the wav. files do, for a very expensive piece of equipment- the selective preview seems cheap (incomplete). if they do load-do the mp3 files sound tinny or weak at all? not really crucial, just wondering. ps- runnin os2(if it matters for the load/preview features)

i believe the mpc5000 can't load mp3s... I don't know how those got into your folders but I don't have them.

My 5k didn't come with mp3's either. Are you sure those are factory files?
As far as I know the 5k can't read mp3's, reason why I have to cnvert al my mp3 samples to wav.

ahhww hell nah, gotta be fckin kidding me! I have gigs and gigs of mp3 samples hell nah that im converting them all to .wav!!!!

What about other mpc's, which one DOES read mp3 files?

find a batch conversion program

I know had a map with a couple of mp3 files which was 60mb
Converted to wav files the map was 616mb!!

That's a huge difference and the main reason i've always used mp3's because they save you so much space

Mp3 needs conversion to be played back so is not useable 'real time'.

yes, you can 'open' a MP3 in for example Ableton and use it realtime, but in the background the MP3 is first completely converted to a WAV which is then used in Ableton

I wonder where you used an MP3 ....

for serious music production there is absolutely no need/benefit to use MP3

and as I said , in Ableton for example MP3 is converted to a wav...so in the end your disk contains a wav version and an MP3, better to keep wav only...

and yeah mp3 samples are not the greatest but some times it does happen...

yup, actually i did used FL for about 10 years and have always used mp3's from time to time
