Trading mpc1000 for fully loaded mpc2000xl

I own an mpc 1000 bk_n with jjos4.99... I love it. But I originally wanted an xl, I picked the 1000 because of the USB port... I met a kid that is will to trade a fully loaded mint xl. I'm not a dj so portablility and compact design mean nothing to me. I just want a studio workhorse. If anybody has any input to help me out would be cool.

well the 2000xl does less then your 1000.... however what do you mean by fully loaded?

I notice people say their 2000xl is fully loaded but all they got is the 32mb of ram installed (so yes the memory is fully loaded) however there are 3 other possible expansions available not including a zip drive, or compact flash drive... hard drive or any of that storage stuff.

yeah the zip drive is installed, not card reader though. and yeah i meant more like rarely used, mint condition.
ive just heard its better for production, 1000 is more aimed at dj and live performance.

I traded my MPC 1000 for an MPC 2000XL only because the 2000XL was fully loaded (32MB RAM, 8 Outs, FX Card Expansions) and I felt it had a better sound and filters to what I was looking for. Compared to the MPC 1000 with JJOS on it, it definitely is a step back as far as features to speed up the workflow, but for me, it makes me work harder and more creatively. (Not to say the MPC 1000 with JJ OS won't make you creative because it definitely will if you have the skills). It's better built and I like the feel of the pads better than the MPC 1000 or the MPC 2500. Having said all this, I may end up getting the MPC 2500 eventually in the future as an alternative to my MPC 2000XL. All of this is subjective and it's based on how you want to work and what you need to get out your production.

I'm not a fan of the 1000 at all..too small for me, BUT when you mentioned, "I felt it had a better sound and filters" it made me wonder if you really knew what you were getting.
I had the XL for 7 years, loved it, but the additional features in the 1000/2500 are everything that older MPC users wished for. If the 1000 was the same size as the 2000XL, I wouldn't own a 2500 today.

When I say better sound and filters I mean the lowpass filter and sampling engine on the 2000XL is different than the MPC 1000. It's a subject mentioned many times on the forum. The sampling engine on the MPC 1000 and the MPC 2500 is different than the MPC 2000XL just as much as the MPC 60's and the MPC 3000 sound way different than the MPC 2000XL. The MPC 1000 and the MPC 2500 sampling engine sound too digital and thin to me but that's really subjective of a point because as lampdog mentions, you can shape the sound more in your DAW.
The Lowpass filter is definitely different and in my opinion goes lower on the MPC 2000XL the MPC 1000. As for features, I definitely wouldn't say anything about having better features for the MPC 2000XL....it's better built than the MPC 1000 and from what I have heard from others, better built than the MPC 2500. It is a downgrade as far as features compared to the newer models. On that opinion of better build quality and also wanting myself to work harder than when it was waaay easier for me on the JJ OS for the MPC 1000, I traded my MPC 1000 for the MPC 2000XL. For me, at least, I like being forced to work harder with less features because it makes me more creative...I miss the JJ OS for sure but I get around fast on the MPC 2000XL too. In the end, it's all up to what uses and needs the end user want out the MPC.

I think I am just a fan of the 2000xl... because I would take a maxed xl over a 1000 any day.

in fact I even mentioned in another thread that I would take a maxed XL over a 5000... except the only thing is the 5000 is worth more so I would actually grab that to resell. (But you know what I mean)

LOL!!! Yeah I do debauch. If I had the MPC 5000 I'd show it off as a display then resell it! LOL!!!

It's funny because I'm in the same exact same predicament your in (except the 2kxl I'm trading for has the CF upgrade). like other guys out there the 1000 was my first mpc, but I always wanted a more warmer analog sound and found that the beats coming from the old school samplers sounded more "fatter", but taking the time and messing around with mpc 1000 (using the filters & effects) I began to wonder if it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I think the OP and I would appreciate some insight from a veteran mpc user who actually has taken the time with both the 1000 and the 2000xl, no worries about work flow / extra features / legacy or anything like that just the basic "Raw" sound of both machines.

You know what man? the 1000 is a 16 bit sampler, I think maybe try messing with EQs and stuff like that and stick with what you got if you got no problems with your 1000 and you like what it can do. I think maybe spending some work on the sounds you are sampling into the machines can go a long way....
