Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I have just installed a cd-r/w dvd rom drive in my mpc 4k. It seems to 'see' it but it isn't functioning as it should. I have tested 2 different drives with the same result.

It is stating in the load window that the cd-r/w is internal and that the type is unknown.

I can eject the cd-r from the cd-r unit but not from the eject option at F3 on the mpc.

When I place a cd or dvd in the drive nothing appears to be happening, the disk isn't being read and no files appear in the load window.

I can't see whats wrong as I have set it up as detailed in the appendix of the user manual. Any suggestions?

Maybe the data cable between the cd drive & the mainboard is bad.

You'll probably have to order the cable from vst service or somebody since it's extremely short.

I'll have to contact VST again. I got a data cable with the cd r/w drive I tried to install. Is it an akai specific one that is needed? The one I have seems to fit properly, going by connections...

IDK, I think the ata cable you need is specific for the 4k. I also found the part # for the cable you need.

EW-821111X WIRE ASSY L4016(12) AMP 40P

I'm sure you can find this at either mpcstuff.com or vst service.
