emu sp1200 & emu emax similarities...

The Emax 1 and SP1200 sound nothing alike. I have both of them right next to me.
Also an Emulator II. Whoever tells you they sound similar has wax in their ears.
The SSM chips are different models and there far more control on the Emax 1 as far
as full ADSR and LFO's, and filter control, etc. One is a drum machine and one is an upgrade to the Emulator II sampling keyboard. Two different animals. I suggest getting both. Save $100 a week till you have enough to get both of these amazing machines. It adds up quick.

One of the DXA dudes did a comparison video, and for me the Emax won hands down.

SP1200 sounded real lo fi but muddy.

The Emax sound is hard to describe but there's something real magical about it.

That would be the first time I have heard the SP-1200 sounding muddy.
Were you overloading the sample input to sample stuff? It's definately lo-fi, but
I would not say muddy. You also can select your outputs which are different filter
settings. 1 and 2 are dynamic filters, 3 through 6 are fixed, and 7 and 8 do not have filtering. Yes, there is something magical Emax 1. Low bit rate (adjustable) and SSM analog filters with a decent synth section. There is the magic!

The DXA video was horrible in my opinion. It's hard to hear the real magic in these boxes with just hip hop. There are many genres around the world that's took advantage of these tools than just hip hop artists. Sadly few people know this.

A lot of House guys and Ambient artists utilize these tools also. The first NIN album was made with an Emax 1. That album sold a few copies. (not that i like nine inch nails, I am just saying)

Emax IS NOT fckin' w/ the SP . . . if you're into drum machines and all your musical heroes come from 90's / golden era hip hop .

haha youre horrible. my sound test wasnt good because i used hiphop? i did that test for my hiphop heads so you can go make your own fruity techno sampling video if you dislike mine.

No software here. That video is crap. It's hard to hear the difference with such poor taste in samples. Basically everything you stand for to be more specific is weak. You may run a forum elsewhere (which basically never really renders any new information) but around here you're just a regular joe.

Moving on. The 1200 and Emax 1 sound really different. But it's hard to tell with someone sampling such crappy stuff all the time.

same, i keep it simple and try not to mess with chopping and all that on the Emu. i got the rack version Emax HD and i just use it one sample at a time, then record it back into the MPC after i mess with the analog processing, ADSR and filters, plus sampling rates too...

i love it, the sound is super dope and its really quick once you just get the basics down. i have it MIDI'd to the MPC cas its a rack, but i'm sure the keyboard is the same sh*t, i just couldn't fit that monster anywhere in my space.

warm and fat really no matter how you use it. plus it gets pretty punchy too, and the filters beat the MPC's in my opinion...

I'm bumping this old thread. Just bought a emax in Cleveland. I'm about to buy my first sp1200 to go with it. Anyone else using this combo?

interested in this myself since emax has so much control over samples, curious as to what they're going for nowadays they hardly ever pop up.

I think the emax is the better bang because you get lo-fi and the ability to shape your envelopes. SP1200 excels as a drum sampler. Both can still provide a punch, but get an emax and make some good tunes for the world.

the emax is defiantly in the same family of the sp, pair a emax sp and a emax 2 with stereo sampling and we have something menage-et-trois type special.
