Maybe they can do something similar for your 3000? If not them then maybe someone else but it could be a very workable solution.

rey,

thanks. I've contacted the seller, I will post if i get a useful response.

I just realised I have access to a laser cutter. So if not i'm going to try someway of making the stencil myself using the laser cutter, just not sure exactly what to do? simple stencil and paint or what?

and the font to use??

Oxide, my experience has always been to keep things as simple as possible. Most of the time that gives the best results.

As to what font(s) to use, I have never painted my 60(or in this case a 3000) so I have never done the research as to what font akai used or which one I personally liked best on it...then again it might be a personal thing too...what i mean by this is that what I like you might not like and so on...

As to the type of finish and what type of paint to use, you might have to do some research on that too, depends on what effect you are looking for and your experience with such things and how much patience you have...

Going back to what type of font to use, one idea might be to look at the fonts in word or online at websites that specialize in fonts to get an idea of what you might like...

Another idea is to look at some of Akai's manuals and see if they published what fonts they used in them at the beginning on the copyright page...I remember Apple used to do that all the time in thier manuals...

Just some thoughts to hopefully get you going in the right direction...hope it helps

yeh good plan,

the akai logo itself and the roger linn signature wouldn't be be too hard/ printed manuals internet etc.

then there is about 3 other fonts.

MPC 3000

"Integrated Rhythm Machine 16bit Drum Sampler/MIDI Sequencer"

and everything else.

once I finished recapping my console. I think I'll have a go at this.

Cool...craigslist find?

ebay. really cheap.

faders were horrible, I tried cleaning them and they were ok. ended up replacing the faders and they work like a dream. world of difference.

the main out right channel, sounds slightly different to the left less high end (like you know when you got a snare with a little hat at the end, well you can hear it in the left but not the right) and the bottom sounds slightly different. very subtle though. so I am going to recap that channel, see what happens, and if it improves it recap the left. then recap each input channel one by one and so i can compare the difference.

its quite nice, cause its got direct outs for each channel, so you don't have to mess about with sends if you want to record something from it.

someone gave me a mackie to try for a few days, to see if i wanted it. and it was horrible, really high noise floor. don't know if it was faulty. trouble with mackies like that though is its all on one circuit board. the studiomaster has a pcb for each channel. so you can swap faulty ones down the end and stuff.

funny thing is I started off making beats on computers and am going more analog and more hardware all time!

I'm switching to a more OTB setup as well...have been mixing in PTLE, but am in the process of refurbing an Amek BCII I picked up last year...

I figured what the hell...I'll give it a shot- i'm tired of mixing with a mouse and want more than a digital control unit- we'll see if the headaches/non-recallibility is worth it.

just googled the AMEK looks quite nice.

i work in IT i'm fed up computers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the non-recallibility is a good thing i think. just like tape was. play/do it right first time, rather than comping

Thanks...Looking forward to using it- they were built for broadcasting, but have been used quite a bit in studios- not as much as the neve designed B3, but those cost arm arm and a leg (if they can be found)

True...taking a few notes here and there won't be a big deal (eq/panning etc)
I'll still use PT as a recorder, just want to run everything through the board/outboard..

Good luck with the recap and the custom job on the 3k :D

Keep us posted on both!

recapped main out right last night.

frequencies sound more equal now!!!!!!!

lifted a 2 solder pads and had to jumper them but it was first time i've worked on a PCB so I am not too annoyed. I think the damage was done in the desoldering phase rather than the soldering.

Adequate light is the key, i couldn't really see what I was doing so I got a decent lamp coming and going to commence full recapping tommorow. Hopefully I still have a console that works come monday!

what are you doing the AMEK?
