Ok cool.

I just think the cats who concieved the mixtape series to be a certain way originally, should take a step back and see how this one turns out.

We are working under Clint's vision for this tape afterall... a 'forum OG' should rocognize this.

damaga wrote:yo hellfire, i thought this mixtape was to showcase the mpc and production skills?

whats rappin on a beat go to do with that?

most electronic music i listen dont include no rappers

maybe this is just the revolution - mpc mixtape is possibly reflecting the times unlike some haters - and if all there is is bitching even b4 anyone has even heard a tune  its hardly gonna help clint be motivated....and potentially scare entrants off from next tape, scare possibly those helping to mix the tape.....and god forbid.....cauase everyone in to mutany and signin up with CGR!

a little less beef, a little more melody!

cooool those goddam jets man

The symphony sounds beat tape was to show production skills of the mpc. Dudes' solo beat projects are to showcase their skills on the mpc. But the mixtape series was started to showcase dudes on the mpc as well as their ability at putting together full songs. No one said it only had to be rap. We always stated that. I was gonna submit an r&b song to this edition, but the beat was included in one of my recent YouTube vids. We can go in the your music section and hear dudes beats all day if we want. But there aren't many posts of dudes getting some vocals on their tracks. I don't why everyone thinks it has to be rap.

Like I said, I could give three **** what's on there. Do I have to put it in my sig? It's crazy how "13 instrumentals?" was replied to with an essay implying i was crying to begin with.

Nothing against Clint, but I will be seriously surprised if it's anything more than some beats with a few seemingly random ass songs here and there. But like I said 3 pages ago, I just hope the music is at least good and am interested and hearing what this sounds like.

fair enough dude, i misread that you not impressed with lots of 'instrumentals'

all the jungle music i listen to are only instrumentals....but i see them as full songs not lacking anything....complete in their own right

i love 70s dub, and its only instrumentals....but for me a hell of a lot more complete production wise than most hip hop with vocals

but what do i know...i didnt even enter a tune......

I thought I'd check the initial reactions to the shortlist.

I can understand Hellfire's point of view, although I do not agree with it in the context of Volume 5. Obviously the previous Volumes had no instrumentals on them at all and this excluded a lot of people from submitting, for various reasons. I decided to take a different approach and accept the criticism that usually come with change. Instrumental work does still have production value (as anyone who has shopped a track will know) and we all know that. Symphony Sounds was 100% instrumental and dope, but I suspect the idea of having instrumentals on a CD alongside full tracks may not sit well with some of you.

Coz asked about why I raised the number of tracks that could be on the shortlist per producer. Well the decision was partly based upon the low number of complete tracks submitted. A number of people told me they were going to submit complete tracks and then failed to submit anything at all, this was disappointing. Ideally the running time of the instrumentals and the complete tracks will be equal in terms of time, we shall see.

It seems as though there is some misinformation out there as to the origins and purpose of this project, my view is this:

The project is about showcasing our music and trying to get it out to a wider audience via the Internet. It does encompass complete tracks but should not discriminate against music without vocals. It should not be genre specific, nobody is expected to like every track.

The idea is to appeal to as wide an audience as possible in as many countries as possible. As EP for this Volume I am proud of the fact that the competition has been more inclusive this time around and encouraged some to submit for the first time. Each EP has a mandate to apply their personal vision to the project, this is what I have done.

No one owns this project, it is a sum of its parts.

Thanks for your continued support with this, I hope that innovation continues to be a factor with future Volumes as it has been in the past. As producers we all know that repetition quickly becomes boring and predictable...

Wow, about five new post while typing this...continue

It will certainly be a challenge, but will I manage to pull it off??

I wont take any comments personally, I'd like to get as good as I gave previous EP's.

I am doing this to learn something about myself and about our attitudes towards change.

I heard Obama is all for change...

Nothing wrong with instrumentals. But I have some instrumentals I would have rather submitted instead if I knew it woulda been like that. But I honestly get bored with listening to other peoples instrumentals for some reason, even if it's absolute fire with nice change ups. That's just me. Sometimes that vocal keeps the listeners attention.

That is true.

But it depends on who is listening..

Regular folk, other producers, artists, dancers, film scorers......etc.

I listen to a lot of Daft Punk tracks, very few or no vocals at all. Still dope as hell.

Clint, Dstruct started this whole mixtape thing. And the things I listed above are the reasons he started it. The stuff you said sounds great, but that seems more like what you feel it should be verses Dstructs original vision. But like you said, no one technically owns the series, so **** it. But yeah, can't really blame you for people not submitting. But you see, these are the exact reasons why "the usual suspects" on previous volumes were always all over the series. But that controversy around that whole issue is what put a lot of dudes off from this volume, and why a lot of dudes fell back. I personally was going to back out of this volume and let other people step up, even before you loosened up the song length. But when you said your inbox was lookin lite, I said **** it and hit up Prah for a collab. I won't lie, Journey was recorded earlier this year but never released or posted. But I thought it fit with the theme so I submitted it. As long as this shit bangs, you'll have my props.
