Saving on the MPC2500SE

Hi there, I just recieved my MPC2500SE on Friday and I am just starting to get the jist of how some of the basics work. I am able to transfer samples from my memory card and sample library to the MPC, but the problem is that when I turn it off and back on, all the samples I've put on have disappeared. I'm not really sure what I have to do to save my additions so that when I turn it on they'll be there. It just seems pretty strange that I can put them on but they don't stay there.

Any help from anybody would be superb, as this is bugging me quite a bit....

read up on AUTOLOAD in the manual...

I have done this and autoload is on. It just doesn't come back up when I turn it back on. Is it where I'm saving it? I wanted to save all sequences and samples to the internal memory, but then when I attempted it it came up saying if I continued it would erase everything on the "internal flash memory"? It sounds stupid but after only just getting this machine I'm scared that if I carried out this save everything will disappear.

Does it mean that what I have added from my memory card/sample library to the MPC will just get saved on top of what is there or will it actually delete everything? I'm just really confused and not too sure about this situation. Sorry for all this newbie crap, I am aware that it must be really annoying.

you can't overwrite the internal memory... save your files to either a flash card or hard drive [if you have one] and set it autoload from there instead...

Right, really sorry but I'm not getting this too well. I'm loading programs off of the memory card I got with it so I can access it on the actual MPC, but I don't know what to save it to? I've tried saving it but every time I turn it off and back on I end up having to load the program back on to use the samples. I'm not sure what I'm ment to save and what to save it to. Because surely you're not ment to load programs and samples on every time you use it. Autoload is on by the way...

of course you are... it's a sampler. you start from scratch and sample into it & then load your drums or whatever as needed. i personally, like many of us here, never use autoload to be honest. MPCs are limited to a certain amount of memory that can be filled... so rather than filling it up with sounds i may not use, i choose to start with blank memory every time.

also, when saving... make sure to create a new folder for each project of yours [on the memory card] and then save ENTIRE MEMORY into that folder. when you want to load your project, you can just select the folder name and it will load all the contents of it.

these are basics... i'd advise spending some more time with the MPC and playing around with all the functions. the tutorial available for sale on this website is actually pretty useful too.

yo, i aint got a 2500, but i can tell you, just **** around with it, and get the saving and loading down. its not that hard, and better to learn it now, rather then after you are done making some heat and risk losing it.. hahaha. just try it, hit do it and see what happens, i mean you just got the thing, what do ya got to loose?? ur first beat? lol.. 4 real, go to the save menu, press save entire memory project, or entire memory, not sure which it is on the 2500.. make sure you create a folder for that, cause it will save all ur samples, programs, and sequences in there, and its a huge mess if you dont create a folder for it.. press DO IT, save it with samples, DO IT,.DO It, DO IT,, it will ask you a bunch of things, just keep hitting DO IT!!! lol

Nice one, cheers for your comments and help it's much appreciated. Pretty much got the save/load situation sorted so I'm almost ready to go. Going to get my drum kit sampled next weekend and have some fun.....

well, then you tell him how to do it... last i knew it couldn't be done unless you saved over those files with files that have the same names.

im certainly not sure about anything enough to tell anyone how to do anything. All I did was press the button to go ahead when it gave the warning about writing over the internal memory. Then a percentage meter came up. Now, with autoload set to on, it loads the one and only 'program' which consists of a kick and a snare. But that was all in the user guide.

bigmojo... actually i just re-read your post and you never cleared the internal memory... you just set your saved files to autoload [most likely from your compactflash card]. there's a big difference between the MPC's internal memory and simply using autoload.

What I've been doing is saving 'sequences and programs' to 'Internal' , using the jog wheel to select internal intead of memory card. I then do the same with 'Programs and Samples' to 'Internal'

It then gives a warning about overwriting internal memory. Then there's a little percentage counter and it gets there.

I know there's a folder on the CF card called 'Internal' as well but I backed this up and removed its contents. I then switched the machine off and on and it auto loaded what I had been working on.

Is this not right?

Actually one can save to the internal memory, but only in one pass.
That means there is no difference if you save just one sample or the whole roundabout 16mb - it will simply overwrite everything previously saved to the internal memory.

Also one can make every folder an autoload folder - e.g. to load the last project automatically the next time you switch on the mpc.

my autoload just loads a project file with already named tracks and sequences and some midi parameters but no sounds or samples - so that is also a blank canvas.

the internal folder on the cf-card is just a backup of the content already preinstalled on the mpc - but it is possible that there is different content depending if your mpc was shipped with a 32mb or a 128mb cf-card.

Thanks for clarifying.... I was wrong though. The files in "internal" folder on the CF card that come with it are NOT the same as the ones in the MPC's 'Internal' memory.
