Getting started and i would like some advice/information ple

Hey! i've wanted an MPC 1000 for time! but now i'm very close to actuallty getting one and i would like to know some things.

What hardware would i need to getting started for sampling? i assume i would need a turntable, mixer, synth, but how would i sample from films? through my tv?

How good is software like fruity loops and pro tools etc. compared to just using just the hardware?

how do i connect the turntable to the MPC? what cables would i need?

For now thats all i can think about, anything else and i'll be sure to let you all know.

any help/info would be greatly appreciated!! thanks for reading!

a cable and ANYTHING that outputs a line-level signal.

that could be a turntable+mixer (a turntable on its own will usually output a phono-level signal, so you need a mixer or phono amp to boost it to line-level) or it could be a TV, or a radio, or a CD player, or your computer's Speaker Output or ...

you should be able to figure this out for yourself, either by looking at photos or from the manuals (nothing stops you downloading the mpc1000 manual before you buy one - in fact you'd be a fool not to)

you need cables with the right kind of connectors, so you can plug one end into the mpc and one end into your sample source (mixer, tv, cd player, computer, whatever)

Where do i connect the MPC into the tv? is it via the headphone jack?

also i see you are from the UK, i plan on ordering my MPC and turntable from chemicalrecord.com, does the MPC come with the US power adapter, or the UK one?

if i do intend on getting and using software, how would i play the vinyl through the... laptop... it's hard to explain my thoughts here. i seen Preemo in a vid with ludacris in the studio and preem plays a sample through the laptop and scratchs on the turntable.. i think. if you know what i'm talking about (i know it's confusing how i typed it ) please make it more simple for me to understand, please. lol

EDIT: could you send me a link to a good phono amp, i browsed through Amazon but i don't really know exactly what im looking for. also is the Technics 1210 turntable good? or the SL1200 MK2? thats the two that i have been eyeing up.

that will work - or more expensive TVs have RCA outputs for connecting to amplifiers or receivers

the transformer is built-in to the mpc, so it just comes with an IEC plug lead, not an adaptor. it should come with a UK plug if you buy a UK model, but if not you can just get a new lead from anywhere. IEC leads are the ones most desktop computers use, sometimes called a kettle lead.

that sounds ike he's using something like Serato or another time-coded vinyl system which allows you to scratch on a turntable and have that control samples on a computer. he's NOT playing vinyl through the laptop, he's playing the laptop from the turntable. the sounds are not coming from the vinyl, only from the laptop. you can use the mpc to control samples on a computer, though obviously you can't scratch with an mpc like you can with a turntable

I don't know about phono pre-amps, but technics are the dogs bollocks

there's no difference between sl1200 and sl1210 except colour - either is good. I use sl1200 mkII and they rule

imo the mpc is ALOT better than pro tools for making beats

pro tools is great for mixing etc after u track out etc
