Live MPC (Midi) Looping - Boss RC 50 ?

Yo folks!

One short question! There are some posts and tons of videos of the Boss RC 50 Loop station around...
I'm planning on getting one soon, too - in order to do some live stuff.

As i just want to rock the MPC with it, it's essential for me to know if this thing CAN
a) be synced correctly to the master tempo of my MPC (1k)
b) quantize my banged in chops to the master tempo

The MPC should neither be in Record mode, nor in Play mode at that point of time - the Boss RC 50 loop station should do the job of layering and quantizing my chops, drum hits etc.

I'm pretty sure it's possible, aight?
Any experiences ?

i don't know if there's a new firmware but when i tried it a few years ago the midi sync was awfull .
i searched the internet and a lot of person were complaining about that issue .
if you mean quantize what you beatbox or whatever and don't think the rc-50 does it but it does quantize the end of the loop in midi sync

Damn that would suck hard!!!

It's ridiculous... what i basically ONLY want to accomplish is similar to recording sequences in the MPC, adding more and more layers, switching tracks, sequences etc WHILE being in 'record more'... Basically the stuff you can do with Ableton Live - just that i dont want to use software.

He uses the RC 50, as well.
However he's just doing audio loops... but the more i think of it - isn't that just exactly the same like using the audio outputs of the MPC ?

However i want to keep it hardware this time.

Of course it is...you can record the outs of an MPC to the RC50 just like anything else that produces sound. But the RC50 will not do any MIDI sequencing or things like that. The most you can hope for is that it syncs with other equipment, but then you don't even need that if you just record the audio.

Thanks... Ehm, you think it can handle the quantization of my samples ?

the rc 50 will loop anything you throw at it and it will playback the swing exactly as sampled - but the timing depends on your ability to tap the tempo into it.

you mentioned dubfx in your post - just look at his videos and you see that he always taps out the tempo first.
he is using another boss pedal for bass sounds and effects but the looping is done in the rc 50.

we just had him here for one of our partys on his european tour and it was a blast - the show was sold out and it was really hot.

I have the 1000 and the rc50, i usually use them together without sync. If your the tempos are set the same they stay in time . You might have to play around with the patch/phrase settings in the RC to get it working right - but these can be saved into the machine, so i would prepare things how i want for certain songs. Also- if you what to define the tempo from what youve recorded into the RC live (i.e. not playing to click),youd have to change the tempo on the mpc manually before you start playing with that.

So i guess setting the same tempo in both machines is the way to go... Wouldn't that make some ill live loop layering possible ?

the manual of the rc-50 says that it can be synced to external midi gear via midi clock and also can be the midi master so your mpc can be slaved via midi clock.
depending on what you want to accieve both ways are possible.

why don´t you read the manuals of gear you are interested in yourself? there are no excuses since in this day and age everyone who can type in a few words into google can find any information he needs...

there is no need to loop a looping machine. period. MPC can do all of it internally. turn your click track off doggie.

Your right on that one, amigo. However i thought maybe there were some people around here, who would just yell 'Yeaa, its no problem, many ppl around here doing it' or something like that - what would have actually saved me some time.

Thanks for sharing your vision.
Today i spent much time, trying to expand on the live arranging on the MP exclusively.. and actually accomplished more than I'd have thought of.

However, what drives me nuts right now is how i do the 'complexer' bridges, and fills between hooks, verses etc. Actually the stuff, which include like four tracks or more, being rearranged at the same time... Any ideas on that one?
Seems im still fairly new to that whole issue.

Actually i still have to do a lot of thinking and completely reorganizing my beats and tracks. Any tips orexperiences on that topic therefore are very much appreciated - however i'll do my best to find solutions on my own, as well.
