can anyone break down the RAM situation for the s2800?

I am perplexed, it seems the s2800 requires a proprietary memory card.
is this true, or is it just some 72 pin simms?

I just searched the web and found some sites were they talking bout RAM boards for the s2800. Yes they are proprietary. No standard SIMMS are used.

that seems kind of odd for when that machine came out...

I will know more when the unit gets here.
I believe it is the studio model

with 8MB, digital I/O, and scsi board pre-installed.

well 8 megs is a lot so I think you should be fine either way.

Just got myself a Akai S2000. It came with 8Mb RAM but already purchased 2x16Mb to max it.
I also bought this and I need your help:

This is a external SCSI CD-ROM case. It comes with a 6X TEAC SCSI CD-ROM.

I opened it and the internal SCSI connector is 50 PIN.

First question: Old internal Hard discs use this 50 PIN connector?

My idea is to use the external enclosure with a 510MB SCSI HD that this guy is selling.


I also need to know what cable do I need to buy to connect the device to the Akai SCSI port.

The S-2800, 2800i all take the same ram type the S-3000 take which is a special Akai board which is now rare and expensive not that it was ever cheap, I remember paying 50 quid for 8 meg many years ago.
The 2800 is more limited in what it can take but there are some hacks out there to make it take the same amount as a S-3000 (32meg) also some one once said about some jumper settings and changing the EPROM's and then it thinks it's a S-3000 (main boards are very similar or same?)

Regardless it was my first Akai sampler years ago

it says broken, for parts are repair, but the the picture of the screen shows that it is working just fine.

now I have 7 damn samplers over here.

I am some kind of hoarder.
