Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

Hi,

First post, new to MPC(1000, 128MB, 40GB, XL1.33). Using Logic since 4.x, Just started using Live with M4L. A few years experience with Max( and no MSP). I have a GenoQs Nemo.

I just sequenced my first track and am running into a few workflow issues. I skipped through the original Akai OS manual and have read parts Stans JJOS manual. The latter helped a lot, but some things appear to be different in XL.

Lets say i've programmed a few bars of kicks and suddenly decide i want to layer more kicks. How do i copy vertically? Couldn't manage it in main or grid.

I saw a mention about linked the q-sliders to swing(so i can preview with the note repeat), but it seems to have disappeared in XL?

In song mode i tried to merge some sequences, but it removed my mute automations. Is there a way to merge sequences and retain the mutes? So if i've created an 8 bar sequence with mute events, can i make it 32 bars and have the automation stay intact?

With a midi track, is it possible to select multiple notes and lower values? I was trying to lower velocity for 8 bars of chords tonight and had to do them all separately.

sorry for all the questions. I'l probably solve a lot of these with trial and error, but hopefully the friendly mpc users on the internets can help speed up my learning process.

hmm, i thought some of y'all were complaining about timing/sync issues with the 1.4x OS, or is this not the case?

I checked out the online manual, when i first got the 1k, but its pretty vague. Maybe it'll make more sense now i've sequenced my first track.

1.43 came out this week with some nice additional features, so it's up to you if you want to upgrade or not.

I wouldn't say the online manual is vague, but it definitely isn't the most inspiring read either. Having the screen shots for each function at times is more informative than the text.

I'm one of the few that is complaining about it. I don't know how other people can cope with it tbh.
The timing problems occur after a while and not even when you go near the polyphony limit. It definitely gets a lot worse if you turn on Mute type:level, but it is unusable when it kicks in when you are syncing up external drum machines.
You'll know when it happens.

My setup is hardware based so sync does worry me. To be honest i've pretty much lost faith in midi sync between sequencers period. I connected the Nemo and sync was flakey both ways (master/slave). But i do want to check it out with a korg esx.

Which version was good for you Jimmie? Can i archive this OS if i want to downgrade or will i need the installer? My mpc is 2nd hand and i didn't install JJ. I downloaded Stans old OS archive but it stops a while back. Is there a current link to the older OS's? I have webspace and will host them if someone wants to make a compilation.

For layering it's better to use layers or SIMULT (even better) in the program mode.

Peace

I found v1.33 to have better timing but I've kinda given up on using my mpc for anything serious because I find that as soon as I start really getting into making a tune the timing starts going out of wack. I'm not just talking about syncing anything external here either, it happens inthebox. I need to spend some time again on it and work out which OS version has the best, most rock solid timing, but I can tell ya JJOS2XL v1.34 and above certainly doesn't.

I have quite a large selection of older jjos's but they are all for mpc2500.

BUT, let me stress that you should do your own testing and find out for yourself, because it might simply be my own personal mpc2500 hardware that is at fault and not the software.

The reason I bought the mpc was for a rock solid sequencer for internal samples and to sync my drum machines, synths and kenton pro4. Unfortunately for me, the latest JJOS2xl versions have given solid timing a very low priority and I find that bizarre.

I know the timing in Trim majorly goes to shit when the sequence is playing and you're editing chops etc, but I can't pinpoint what upgrade caused it to happen.

The timing elsewhere appears to be solid though.

Thanks, i'll try that out

Its weird there's no mirrored collection of all the OS versions online. They're not exactly huge.

it's only in grid view on drum type track now, but you can switch to midi view after

works fine on latest os, mutes from few sequences are converted as they supposed to

again, to edit few separated notes (not range like in midi view) together you have to change to drum track type and than use seq edit, there you can choose which notes you want to edit,

Thanks Bugfix, i didn't think of changing the track type. The drum type is real nice for the shifts too! Great to know i can switch back and forth.

@le rat:

Can you hit me up with the 1.33XL file (the rest is in Stans collection)? i'll PM you my adress.
